Attention:Chess.com Your tournament pairing system is a joke!

the tournament was a 15/10 standard tournament, not bullet or blitz, as it says in my comment.

i hate online chess.  my current online chess rating is 1977, but i absolutely hate it, i just played like 100 games and i'm totally sick of it.  maybe in a while i'll be less sick of it and take your advice then though, so thanx.

the costomer is always right.  costomer perception is real to them, so in the end, if people want funner bullet and blitz tournaments, and i think chess.com should be going after those markets!, then it really doesn't matter why they want them, the rule of the shark is that you make a bee line straight for the blood.

Give 'em what they want.  if they want poison and will pay for it, u serve it to them with a smile (afer making sure your insurance plans are up to date and you're friendly with the board members)!

I think someone is going to wake up with a horsehead in his bed over this..

HEYYYY!  why isn't there more of a response to this?  I spent a lot of time on these comments!  :<

A good business understands that the customer is always right.

When customers assert this point, they are being jerks.

As for "funner":

That's more response than you deserve, but it serves to show the general tone of the response that you should expect.

*I edited 20 min after posting it, i had done a double post, and i just combined them to avoid confusion, sorry:*

me and another guy both had 4/4 after 4 rounds of a 5 round tournament and it didn't pair us together.  instead it paired us both against guys who had only 3 points.  we both ended up with 5/5 points, but i got 2nd because i had 8 tie break points to his 10.

shouldn't we be paired against each other no matter what, and if anything, let the two other guys have byes if there's no one else for them to play with?

i don't think color is an issue, since at times you can get 3 blacks and one white in a 4 round tournament, there's simply no avoiding it at times.

here's what my medal says, if it helps:

"Congratulations! You have won 2nd place in the 15|10 Standard tournament with an overall record of 5-0-0""

another thing that's been buggin me is that whenever i join an open tournament there's all these 1200 rated guys who have never played a game before, and sometimes they're pretty tough and beat me and other guys and we lose mega points beause of it.  shouldn't there be some sort of rule about not losing points to unrated guys when you're more than 500 points higher than them?  or at the very least, it should calculate their end of tournament rating and then give re-adjust your rating with a bonus if they are say, rated over 1900 at the end of the tournament, after starting out 1200!  (seen it happen, a new guy took down me, i was 1750 at the time, and a nm who was 1950! (i beat the nm too!  :) ))

i notied a lot of people saying this is no big deal to have bad tournaments, and to that i say that people are going to go to the site which is the best, and play there.  at least the people who are paying money are.

i like chess.com the best, but honestly, i'm starting to think that maybe i should take my business to icc or wherever kingscrusher plays, chessworld.net.  if this nagging feeling that i could be getting better tournaments somewhere else keeps growing i'll probably be more tempted in the future to at least try anotehr server.

it can be super fun playing in tournaments online, or a real buzz kill when they kill the mood with lame pairings or ratings adjustments.  i see these videos where kingscrusher's playing tournaments on other servers and it looks like maybe they're running better?  (though the interface looks kind of 90's)

Ok why would they do this? So &$#@ ing dumb. (i would say the real word but they would just kick me off anyway)

The swiss system here runs about 90% of tournaments fairly, and the other 10%... not so much. I too have lost on tiebreak with perfect scores.

this is off topic, but i want to add that the 15/10 tournaments don't come around too often, and this is the second time this happened, i joined one with about 20 min 'till the start time, and then i played some bullet to warm up and waste away the minutes until it started, and then the stupid tournament just goes ahead and starts without me!

what the heck is up with that?  is it cause i was in game so it boots me out?  i mean, i got a diamond next to my name, so why can't i have two games going?

is the thing that we're worried about people delaying on their first move and thinkint that it'll hurt the overal quality of the tournaments?  if so, i gotta say, that if it was me, and my opponent didn't make his first move until 1 minute after his clock started i would be happy with the time advantage.  and in real life, the reality is that sometimes even the best chess players show up a bit late for their games in tournaments.  didn't fischer beat a gm with 5 min on his clock 'cause he was late once?  is it a big deal?

i'm not saying things should be changed, i'm just saying it was yet another buzz kill for me.  ...just saying, that's all.  (i'm an american/usa'n, so that's my one right that i still have left after all!)

**edit** if it wasn't a bug, than it should at the very least tell you that it's booting you, and why it's booting you!**

We will get them fixed! Appreicate your feedback and patience.

PS - if you want to be helpful in comments, please post the date and time of your tournament that had "bad pairings" as well as the tournament ID # if possible.

Much appreciated!

What's the upper limit for the number of participants in a live tournament?

Reason I'm asking is that it appears that the upper limit has gone up in the past or the tourneys are more popular now.

Quite frequently several players end up with 5 wins out of 5 games in 10|0 rapid tournaments, not ideal really.

Maybe tournaments should start more frequently to bring the average participation down to a more sensible level.

thanx danny.  :)

i know my edicate was really bad, and i'll make sure to take the time to be appropriately dipplomatic next time, sorry 'bout that.

i do honestly think that spending some time to addressing these issues in some way should help the bottom line though.  i can't imagine it not.
