My avatar was planned to be as simple as possible and to help me to distinguish my opponents' side in the list of my recent games (and of course another reason - I don't like to see the same impersonal gray template image from other players - thus I had to start from myself ;). So I decided that it should be clear enough - laconic curve with some chess connotation on white background. I draw it by pencil, shot by webcam and cleaned in vector software. Disadvantage - it is not suitable for simplified resampling (resizing) of most web-browsers (except Opera).
Nickname is from my student times (the prototype is a movie character that was mistakenly associated by initiator of this nick with a cryptographer but in fact was a safe-burglar;). Now I use it for presence in virtual (inet) societies or for game accounts.
... as I think others enjoy seeing real people too?
I think you are right. But there is the possibility to post your photo in album with normal size while leaving the avatar for fun.
Colin Pesyna => Cpesyna
The fact that the P isn't capitalized has been bugging me since my first day here.
As far as the avatar goes, I'm a biology major. Although I don't really study evolutionary biology, it makes a good picture. I considered a double helix, but with all the anti-evolution sentiment out there I thought it best to have my evolve-fish on display.
I love Escher. That is a really cool idea.
Thanks :) And I enjoy Calvin and Hobbes too!
