Tell him to refresh the page. lol

alright

CPawn

99% of my games as a greeter end in a time out after about 2 moves.  Why do people join a chess site if they dont want to play chess?

philtheforce

yes it is odd ... but i do enjoy being a greeter but im guessing because its unrated they dont care too much or are just new to the site?

I gave up being a greeter because no one seem to want to play me. I think anyone higher then the 1600+ rating here would have that issue and even more so if ur over 2000+ i think.

I don't agree with this.  The fella who welcomed me to this site, pdmura, was rated around 1900, which is considerably stronger than me, but it was a fun game, and he answered all my questions, and he was very friendly.  It was a great introduction to a fine website.  Unfortunately, he forced my resignation after a mere fourteen moves.

Same here. My greeter, Lord-Chaos, was rated 1805 when I joined this site, but I still managed to win in twenty moves. He was friendly too.

philtheforce

that's good to hear

Of the 14 greeter games i have had only 1 bothered to play at all and even then didn't do much talking.

I too enjoy being a greeter... I'm happy to do my part for a site that has given me so much.

I joined chess.com about 2 years ago, and I don't remember been given the option of a greeter game. It's been a while though... if I was, I've probably just forgotten. I was also wondering what happens when a new person signs up. Are they automatically assigned a greeter? Or do they have a choice?

Little-Ninja

2yrs ago it wasn't an option. I think it was an option maybe a 1yr ago if that. No you don't have an option who you get either for the greeter or the greeted last i knew. Yes it is automatically set up.

Thank you for that. :)

Welcome! :)

I agree. I greet ten games at the time and i've found the newbies to be a very annoying lot. They just don't get that it takes a minute or two to move in online chess!

ChessGod

I, agree being a greeter is hard!  I got tons of games at once and most timed out on me :/  Due to the volume of games, the timing out and the people that were just plain rude and unresponsive to my attempts of communication and help, I quit greeting :/

I have met a lot of nice people,i like the idea of been a greeter because you come in to contact with a lot of different country.

I think a lot of teenagers come on to this site, just to have a look. I think thay should have there own chess site called. The snotty nozed school chess club.

I also tell the 2 options, live chess and online chess and what they are, hoping someday to understand why newcomers quit so early in the game.

Any input you have is appreciated.

Thank you.

Explanations about turn-based play and live chess are already copied into the chat box at the beginning of a greeter game. The problem I think is that many people do not want to read explanations or even watch an introductory video, they want to start playing right away. It's like with video games, how many people carefully read the manual before launching the game for the first time?

Unfortunately, a short introduction is really needed to understand the point of correspondance chess. There is not much that can be done about that I think...

CoachConradAllison

I had a really good greeter who i beat. He was really helpful adn told me all kinds of useful things. i was a greeter, one game  i lost and all others timed out quickly.
