Blitz is literally 1/2 of Rapid.
I'm more interested in this statement.
This just isn’t true, no one is “requiring” anyone to play classical tournaments, club players and masters alike play them because they want to.
Regardless, you are telling me honestly, that you enjoy sitting there for 30 minutes and watch paint dry until somebody finally makes a move?
Also, didn't Hikaru say that classical or "fossil" chess as he put it, is dying out while streaming services are taking over? I'll have to look for that clip.
Generally I just walk around the tournament room for a bit if my opponent goes into a deep think.
Hikaru definitely has a unique career and enjoys streaming and playing online which lends itself to shorter time controls. If you don't like playing long classical games, you can just play online blitz and casual games. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's more of a personal preference, not a sign that the classical chess is dead or anything. Hikaru is definitely an exception but most masters still play classical games, regardless of whether they like playing online blitz or not.
Let n be the time of the blitz format of your choice and m the time of the rapid format of your choice. Now let n/m be the ratio of these formats:
