Blocking Ads? Well played.

This was well done.  I am actually going to try whitelisting chess.com for a bit. I hope that they've eliminated the clanging cymbals from the ads.

I, on the other hand, will never again consider a premium membership at chess.com because this is obnoxious.

EvgeniyZh

I am premium member and I use adblock. I know they have a project of allowing some non-intrusive ad. Chess.com might be interested in it, maybe...

Not wanting ads makes one Scumbag Steve?   Undecided

MoonlessNight

I was quite annoyed by these ads. But it only takes a few clicks and they are gone Tongue Out

Ok, after watching that video, it's obvious Scumbag Steve isn't from Boston.  That looks more like Lexington-Concord-Acton Mass... prosperous upper middle class far suburbs.  Like Mitt Romney territory.

I am a paying member, I feel like this is forum for only free members

Really? If you won't watch a few ads and you won't pay, then how would you suggest that chess.com should continue to stay in business?

If most people don't allow ads, this site will wither and die.

And you also realize that they could use this system to disable all or portions of the site for people who don't allow ads?

I'm not fond of the ads but as long as they aren't too disruptive, I am happy to have them if it means that we get to enjoy a great site.

There are other free sites on the internet that do it with no ads.  If chess.com chooses to try to fund their site through ads, that is their choice.  They make this choice with the knowledge that ads can be blocked by the user.  It's not like ad-blocking is some surprise to them or something.

Could make a meme about chess.com: makes site dependent on ad revenue even though ad-blocking has been around for years, begs you to stop using ad-blocking.

No thanks.  If chess.com can't support itself without blazing ads across my screen, I'll happily go to one of the other sites that can.  Actually, I spend most of my time at those anyway as it is.  No loss.

i actually don't mind the ads the way they used to do them.  i even clicked on them once in a while to support the site and find out more about stuff that pertained to my interests.  it's when they opened up a video and sound ad in another window during blitz games that added to lag and prevented you from concentrating during a game that i think they went too far.  i refuse to feel bad for wanting to pay attention to a quick game.  surely the immensely creative people running the site can come up with a better ad system that allows people to play without being badgered and not be a copy of some tabloid site.

That was my immediate reaction.

I tried white listing chess.com for a while, but the ads here are very distracting and poorly done.

kyriazis

Yup, right click the image and block it.

That's not up to me.

LOL

Fantastic. Great attitude.

All I can say is that I really hope this is an April Fools joke because if it isn't gone tomorrow, I will be.

kyriazis

I pay for chess.com for about one month every year when I have time in my schedule. But I don't really want to be pestered about it when I'm not a member.

Just stop complaining, you are free, therfore expect ads.
