Bot ratings

I only play Bots.

For the last 20+ straight games, the bots have all played 500-1000 points above their rating, without exception.

What gives? Kinda frustrating as I’m trying to play opponents that are generally equal to my skill.

Thanks for any comments.

How do you know they are playing above their rating if you have nothing to compare their rating to?

Are you playing bots directly or using the Finish vs Computer option from Analysis and then changing the bot?

I play the bot and after, i do a review of the game. It does an analysis and shows what rating i and the bot played at for that particular game. Hope that makes sense

I’m playing the bots on my phone using the app

Each bot in the app has a rating. I choose the bot, play the game, and after, the app does an analysis of how i and the bot played for that particular game. It shows the bot played well above the stated rating, 500-1000 points above.

chess.com ratings aren’t always the most accurate to OTB elo but how do you know the bots are that much better than their rating?

I have the opposite issue. BOTs at the 1100 level play well until the end game then make absolute stupid moves.

At the 1000 level they make king moves at move 3 or 4 for no reason.

I usually resign rather than being insulted by an inanimate program.

I absolutely agree. I am ~1100 OTB and i still win incredibly easily against 1300-1700 bots.

While i disagree with the conclusion of the post, i do understand this frustration. I sometimes play the Isabel bot which is around 1600 elo, but sometimes it makes moves that i dont see and it seems to have a strong middle game.

But if you stall a bit in the middle game, it'll randomly give away a piece and you can then generally win from an advantage.
I dont think the bots are designed well, but they definitely aren't playing 500-1000 elo higher than what they are listed as.

I don’t know. Maybe I have a setting I’m not aware of. But not exaggerating. I’ve played about 40 games now and each and every bot has played well above their rating.

BEFORE … in the past the algorithms built in offered variance and it was fun. I just played a bot rated 1500 and got relentlessly slaughtered when usually i could put up a good fight and win sometimes

The whole thing seems so weird. I don’t get it. No one else seems to experience the same thing.

I used to love the App, but i guess I’m just trusted. I think I’ll quit the App and try another one. Sorry for the sour grapes and whining.

Best wishes with crushing your next opponent!

You do NOT have any rating right now. Only your puzzle rating, which doesn’t count. If you say you’re rating is 1200: This is just your beginning point. It will rise or drop eventually. Please play some rated games to determine your rating and then play against bots that are within your rating range. After that, come back here again and tell us the results. Otherwise, I would recommend to start with low rated bots (like Martin) and eventually start playing some higher rated bots (like 600, then 1000, then 1300 etc.) to find our your strength.

IMPORTANT: Bot-ratings aren’t comparable with real online of offline ratings.

I’m not referring to my rating. I play a Bot that shows a 1200 rating and after a game, the review will say the Bot played well above the 1200 … maybe 1700.

Before, I used to play a Bot and there would be variance so a 1200 Bot might play between say 800 - 1600 … it would vary from game to game.

I hope I’m clarifying myself. Maybe I’m missing something but thank you for your response.

Oh, seems pretty relatable. Been having issues like that as well.

I've only played bots for the past couple months and friends unrated games. Don't worry about it. I use to fall to 1000 bots all the time and I still fall to other bots to. It's just the game. Now sometimes when I play, it would have a bot playing less than 500-1000 points in his direction. Meaning I completely destroyed his position. Do you need any tips for playing bots?

They also have Jimmy who can play above his level. Sometimes their level doesn't reflect what happened.

I just played Laura who is rated 1100 … after the game and review, it showed she played at 1900 and I believe it.

I’ll just play away and compete at the level I can.

Thanks for the comments All.

Do you have any actual proof?
Or is this all just nonsense garbage you made up because you're triggered you're losing to something that doesn't even have a brain
