Bug, Cheat, or Something Else?
Googling the term has helped me understand the move. In all my time playing chess, I had never heard of the rule. My initial reaction is that it’s not a move/rule I like… too many requirements that overcomplicates an otherwise simple game.

Youb get used to it quick. Like castling or pawns moving 2 on their first move. I believe there's lessons on it here.
I moved my black pawn to f5.
My opponent’s pawn at g5 then somehow took that pawn and ended up at f6 in their next move.
I have screenshots of the two moves. I am beyond confused.
