Cannot challenge friends in app

For the past day, any time me or my friends try to challenge each other to a game in the app, or click rematch at the end of a game, we get matched with a random person instead. I think we're all on Android.

so, my phone died last night, and when I turned it back on after charging it, I was able to challenge my friends again. I don't know if it was a coincidence or actual correlation, but I figured I'd still mention it.
