And here's one I can't stand: YOU REMOVED THE LOGOUT OPTION! Now once I logon, chess.com keeps me logged on even if I 'X' out of the window.....

Click on the X on the toolbar at the top, the one with your name on it. That is the logout button.

One more thing.... The first post was from a staff member "welcoming" questions and comments...... There are LOTS of posts here.... Where are the staff responses?

If you look through, erik has posted in here. Though, a lot of members have also stepped in and helped out.

That's better now everyone is paying attention I can ask my question about...

Can't Find Something in the New Design? Ask Here!

And here is that question:

Can't find the reasoning behind this site using the same typeface, layout & appearaance of another site called ' Facebook '. Then passing this off as ' new from-the-ground-up redesign ' of a chess-website that was essentially not bad anyhow with at least a quirkiness & individuality that was it's alone.

Why has this been done ?

Martin please hush for 5-minutes & do not answer me because that question IS directed towards the staff.

I don't see the same "Facebook" clone you do; certainly don't see the Timeline Tongue out

I doubt you will see answers why the specific color scheme was chosen, or why particular fonts were used. But I could be wrong, Maybe erik and the designers will give those details out.

But if you are asking the why of the updated design in general, read it in erik's own words.

Another awesome edit (after I had posted) ... not like I would have stopped from posting anyway. Don't worry though, it is almost bed time for me so I won't be on too much longer to provide answers Laughing

Nothing was edited after (in that post in the first one obviously yes) you are so busy talking you may not be reading properly perhaps ?

I DID submit that post in one piece in it's entirety can assure you of that...

Now if you have time before bed after logging-off here or (preferably) open-up new window to Facebook.

Compare fonts/appearance.

Copy/paste from here to Facebook.

Subjectively see if you notice any similarites between the 2.

I'll return to here in couple of days time see what you thought if that is acceptable ?

Actually, you didn't. I quoted your post and only deleted the text at the beginning, not the end. But it doesn't matter, really.

As to comparing to Facebook, I still don't see any vast similarity. In fact, I just checked the fonts and they aren't the same. You just have to look at the lower case G and Y to see they aren't. Maybe some of the menu text is the same but that shouldn't come as a surprise. A lot of sites use a standard set of fonts that are more visually pleasing to the eyes.

Here is the Facebook G:

Here is the Chess.com G:

And it doesn't matter if it did resemble Facebook (and I realize many people think it does). The site is about the content and as long as the site is usable and we can get at the content, design choices are a secondary issue.

Can non-paying players still go on vacation (pause games) without a paying membership?

because it is a necessary step in chess.com's plan to take over the world. facetious. of course. sort of. no really kidding.

Are you calling me a liar ?

Where is your quote of my post in it's entirety ??

If i told you I submitted it in one click then am telling you the truth & there are IT methods to prove is this should I decide to sue you for Slander

I didn't lie to you so please do not accuse..

Maybe doesn't matter ( to you ) matters great deal to me to be accused of lying.

I thought this forum was an official (chess.com) forum or wouldn't have posted anything at all in it.

Is this your own forum since you choose to answer everyone in your own inimitable fashion ?

i posted a question on monday 26th, after being invited to do so. so far nobody has addressed that question, although the feature i was asking about seems to periodically re-appear, then disappear again.

perhaps it's because this forum topic has become so congested (a clear indication that MANY people are having difficulties) that it has been overlooked. i can't find the question i asked mself now, but then i'm having great difficulty finding anything right now.

the changes are terrible, keeping the same (or similar) structure with a fresh look would have been fine for most.

the team who spent a whole year on the re-design must have been working individually rather than as a team, there really no coherency about the new look. they can now give themselves a huge pat on the back for fcuking up what used to be a great site

What a joke, you didn't repeat your question.

i was rather hoping i didn't have to.

the joke is that i (and it seems, everybody else) can't find it now either

i wanted to post a new topic in a group forum that i am a member of.

there was no "post new topic" button.

since then, one has appeared, then disappeared, it seems to come and go as it pleases.

right now, when i'm in that group forum, i still cannot find the post new topic button, unless i go into one of the existing topics.

Bonkers!

Where is Opening Explorer in the new user interface? In the old interface, a link to it was on the game page. When a player used that link, a board with that specific game's position would appear; and the player could use it it without setting up the position. Now, it seems, it has been replaced by Game Explorer in the Learn dropdown menu. Game Explorer is inconvenient because the player must go to the Learn dropdown menu and then to Game Explorer to gain access; and it is less useful because the specific game position for which the player wants to use it is not on the board. Instead, it is set at the starting position. I strongly urge that Opening Explorer be restored in the new user interface.

Nothing has changed for me. The 'Explore' link is still on the game page - taking you to the Game/Opening explorer in that exact position.
