Celebrity chess blog?

Hi guys, just wondering if there are any blogs on chess.com specialising on famous people who also play chess? I searched some keywords but couldn’t find anything.

if there isn’t one, I was thinking of starting one- a series with people like Einstein, Napoleon, Allan Turing, as well as more obscure or less well known famous (for non chess reasons) chess players, each issue focusing on a different character, they’re relationship to chess, a game or two of theirs analysed, and general comments on their style.

If that idea doesn’t already exist as a blog, would people be interested in a blog along the lines of what I said?

thanks, James.

Nice. James, it could be pretty interesting, if there isn’t already one, I can possibly help you grin.png

Good point. We should focus more on either famous celebrities who could play chess well(at least better than 1000 USCF estimate) or just SUPER famous people in history.

EvidentRoad

i think anyone who plays chess can be included. it is not easy to get 1000  and most celebrities are quite busy

Hey Leon How good is MBB at chess?

nice to see there’s interest- we could work on a joint blog, and depending on how much involvement you want to have we could either split each issue between us or different people could do different “celebrities”.

i would say to start you’d use big names who had some level of chess proficiency- and preferably ones with lots of available games- and then see how it goes as time goes on.

JustOneUSer

Or you guys could just send me names and i could work on the issues independently.

would be nice to get a range of celebrities/ notable historical figures  from different parts of the globe.

Or we can make a separate account, where we put the blogs there(I don’t think it’s against tos, since we’re using it as a joined project, just like the @notsoprochessleague alt)

That could work yeah. To be honest I’m struggling  to find many Celebs with actual games online to look over, though.

Well there’s John Urschel(@JohnUrschel) but IDK if he really is a “celeb”...

The first rule of the celebrity chess club, (crackle crunch) is not discussing the celebrity chess club.

Well @samayraina is a pretty famous indian indian youtuber and he's already doing a lot of projects on chess. There are a few articles on him, maybe you could dig that up and get an idea of how your blog could be?

NobleElevator

Yeah. Also we’re considering Bill Gates because somewhere I heard that he was like a 1600, but idk if it’s accurate or not

JustOneUSer

There’s lots of information about presidents and their relationship with chess, although I have found no actual games as of yet

NobleElevator

Yeah.

Yeah I’d looked into it since and never got anywhere. I’m in the process of writing a chess in art blog but have come up with the problems that I don’t know enough about chess or art. Still it was an interesting idea/

NobleElevator

Yeah
