Way to sum it up Stevie. -.-

Well theres not many ways to answer your question is there..because nobody really knows the tendencies of cheaters other than they cheat!

AlCzervik

Do they cheat in their forum posts, also?

MrKornKid

So...THEY DO POST!!! /\ ( RED LADY ) HEHE

White_Rabbit

I'm sure a handful of cheaters use the rating boost from cheating as validation to their posts.

I know I'm more likely to believe that a person with a higher rating than myself knows more about the game than I do.

As for sandbaggers (people that drop their rating on purpose), I've only heard of them doing that for tournaments.  I don't see the point of lowering your rating so you can face off against a lower rated player otherwise.  Although to be honest, I don't really see the point of cheating at chess at all.  Unless maybe in the case of pro's going after prize money.

No they don't. Where do you get that? Undecided

MrKornKid

Maybe not but some more respected players, especially NM Reb has said he has faced numerous opponents of which he later finds out are banned for cheating.  So of said grouping how many cheaters regularly post do you think?

Do you want to count them? Like making a list or something? I bet they'll stand in line to tell you...

Page 1 eh.  -.- teehee

A small percentage.  I'm guessing most cheaters don't want to draw attention to themselves.  And if you need a computer to play for you, sooner or later a strong player that knows what they are talking about is going to call you on something.

MrKornKid

No but a guestimate would be nice.  It's nice to know people I randomly correspond with on forums are not two faced and cheaters.

On the contrary..cheaters want attention..thats why they cheat!

True, but as soon as you post on the forums, people start clicking your name to see who you are and check your profile.  Platinum members and higher also have access to other's stats, so they start digging around your games if you don't seem to lose much.  Seems a good way to get busted to me.

Fear_ItseIf

i actually think yes. Players foten get called up on their rating on the forums, ex/ "what would you kow, youre rated 1000". I wouldnt be surprised ifsome people did to boost their rep.

In particular i remember several very prominent posters who were banned for using engines, often it was the same people who would try to assert domincance with their ill gained rating.

Some here can't live without their virtual trophies.

I suppose.  But at the end of the day that has to seem hollow.

BatGirl made a valid post 4 years ago about how trophies were pointless, which still stands, so the incentive is where?

AlCzervik

Unless they're taco trophies. Those matter more.
