Cheaters Beware - You Will Be Caught

I agree, cheaters are only beating themselves.  There are not learning anything and are not fooling anyone but themselves.

Chess.com is a website created to help chess players to become better and improve their game.  A wonderful site.  We definitely do not need cheaters.  Thanks Eric

Players use computers, other forms of Chess Engines, programs like Chess Master to advise on moves. If I understand correctly following the advice of another player or spectator is against the rules ( Cheating )

You can use chess-playing software to make your moves for you, you can have a superior player make your moves for you, you can set up multiple accounts and allways lose to yourself to inflate your rating.

I no longer play correspondence chess, I believe that it is way to easy to consult a chess engine in that time frame, and I know some people who who play slower will do better in slow games versus timed online games but I don't believe that there should be as much of disparity between ones rating online versus correspondence chess.

Cheaters deserve everything they get each point they gained was at the expense of someone elses confidence.I am confident Erik and the others are doing everything possible to route out and bannish all the cheats.

Cheating is fun because it makes you feel better about yourself. Ex. If I were rated 900, I would feel great using a chess engine to beat a rated 2000+ player.

you show great flare. not many people are open as you are-but winning without cheating is more rewarding thats my opinon :)     ;)      :D

You are definitely entitled to have your opinion, so may I ask, in which way you would feel "better" using a chess engine to beat a strong and honest player in here? What's the point?

Jayded

Ban the get pgn until the game is over.

Are there any rules about performance enhancing drugs?

I hope not. That would be lame.

my qustion is why can;t you learn most moves first andhave the database teach you the best moves instead there is allready a feater on chess.com to play against a compuer

If you want cheating to be reduced Erik, your #1 way of doing this is simple.  Remove the FEN data from the [details] tab showing the current position of the board.  There's NO REASON for this to be accessible, considering computer analysis during your game is 100% cheating.  Having it always be available merely temps members to copy and paste it into their software while they play.  If members have to sit there and recreate the board layout every time they want to cheat, I'm fairly certain that laziness will conquer the desire to cheat for most.

kyleevon

yes, A ban on all cheaters!

ReyiTaknev

how do you play fake games?

That won't work. All anyone would have to do is save the game from the engine every move. Start with the normal start position and you don't even have to set up a position once!

Actually, it will work quite well.  Your recommendation will not be convenient for folks who play many games simultaneously.  Erik, at a minimum, I think it would behoove you to poll the chess.com community on the FEN-removal recommendation to reduce the inclination to cheat.

wont stop a cheater, silly idea, you can simply take the position of any given game, no need for the fen moves, plus anyone cheating for a rating on this site are beyond normal reasoning, they will do that,

For the love of god, my comments aren't meant to be a fail-safe way to prohibit cheating.  The point is to reduce numbers, not erradicate them.  Cheaters who are eager enough to re-create the gameboard in their chess software can never be stopped in correspondence chess.  Providing them with "shortcuts" (such as FEN) can at least be removed to reduce the cheating.

Others have stated that downloading PGN's is another way around this.  Under no circumstances should a player need to download the PGN for a game-in-progress.  A PGN should not be downloadable until after a game completes and arrives in your game archive.

Implement both of the above-mentioned changes and the cheating community will shrink substantially enough to make folks not worry about the small percentage of cheaters compared to what it likely is today.

skwirlguts

ive decided that anyone ranked higher than me is a cheater.
There now im the highest ranked....

Oh the love of the logic...
