ok! and so it is. the rules will be something like:

-------------------------------------------------------------------
- You can NOT use any advice from other players.

- You can NOT use any computers or devices to auto-analyze your specific position, including tablebases, chess engines, etc.

- You CAN use books, magazines, or other articles.

- You CAN use computer databases of games.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

is that clear enough? any questions or clarifications?

The specific policies really aren't important as long as they're spelled out, unambiguous and everyone is aware of them.

This is true, and I'm going to tell you why: I'm fortunate enough to know several good correspondence chess players, and one of them told me once:

"It's ok if my opponents just use Fritz, Chessmaster, Shredder or whatever other computer software to play. I will win because computer software is weak on strategy and if I avoid tactical mistakes, my deeper knowledge of the strategical themes will lead me to the victory."

I just wanted to share that comment that I have just remembered with the community.

Some do it because they hate certain Players and want to teach them a lesson most  players do it for purely ego reasons to show off to their friends and buddies how clever they were.  In the end it comes down to bad morals and charecter those doing it simply don't a give s--t they don't feel they have to respect others because of the anonymous nature of the net or follow any Chess code of honour :(

This entire forum post is just giving cheaters more attention.

But Fritz happens to beat me and most of the players on this website Cool However I don't care that much personally because my goal is not to have a good score, which is useless in the end, on a website, but improving myself in real life, which is much more important. And if someone beats me using Fritz, well I might learn more than beating the crap out of him. But, of course, the point in playing here is that I want to play humans...

soo...all of this started because three (three!) cheaters were caught..

and we have how many members???

calm down, guys. this really isn't a big deal. are your children starving? is your wife or husband in danger? so what if some dope wants to use a computer to play me. i don't know the difference--i'm just playing to have a good time!

Jeez, i am using this site to get better and I think I am. I can't understand why someone would go that far to gain points. I am learning a little something evrytime I play someone. It helps that I believe as longer I stay on the board, the better chances I have of winning. I think I am slaying those that come across my path thus far but I will take my losses when they come.

no point in winning games if the other player isnt good, it wont bring your rating up that much

I do not think they are sad people so much as mental.

To think of cheating at Chess or worse yet take drugs or steroids to stay awake for days in effort to cheat more? Wow!

Where do these people come from?

I had no idea. Boy, I'm really learning a lot here!

two more players banned today. people, there are enough eyes on the top players that there is NO chance to improve your rating by throwing games :)

The Tour de France isn't the dirtiest sporting event... just the most tested Wink

I have played playerss who after i make my move go off line for about half hour come back make a move and go off line again.

this is probable normal. but if they are using a computer how can this be stopped in email chess?.

the only way i can see is to have a time limit on each move of about 5 to10 mins this would make it much harder to cheat.but consulting books about opening or end gambits is not cheating but learning from a better player, maybe we should all have web cams fitted, so we can all be on big brother.

On the point of ratings how doe's it work. i drew 1 game and went up by 5  the other player went down.do you get more for beating a higher ranked player then say me a complete noob. is there a chart to see so we can see if its worth playing them or not .

runningrocker

Well cheat, cheat cheat thats all this forum topic is about.

But then those that were cheating need to ask themselves some personal questions

1) do they / Did They really know why they were cheating other than to look good?

probably not

2) Did they understand the moves that they were given and why they were playing the game in that mannor?

Probably not

3) Do they know the person they were playing?

Probably not

4) Is this making them a good or better chess player?

Probably not.

mmmmm there seems to be a patern forming here and if they asked themselves the answers would be the same

5) do they care?

probably not

) Did they ask these questions?

Probably not.

well in the end the only people they are cheating are themselves and they will be the one to suffer for if they cheat in a game of fun they surely will inevitably cheat in the game of life and they will get found out.

Chess is a lot like life

learn as you go on

play to be safe

make a few mistakes lose a few things (pieces)

and get away with it  and you can come back stronger and gain some coverage

but f--k up and make to many mistakes, lose to much and you will end up with no where to go

THANX.NOW I KNOW THAT WE HAVE CHEATS HERE TOO.
StacyBearden
Cheaters on a chess website. Now, not that I find playing online sad, because I do play here, too, but *cheating* on an online game with a stranger is just...ridiculous.  I personally can't imagine gaining any satisfaction out of it.
