Cherub_Enjel's account closed. Chess.com sends a strong message to all the trolls.

The message is clear now. You can't use Chess.com's forums as your personal playground anymore. First it was @Urk and now it is @Cherub_Enjel, once a valuable contributor who recently went rogue.

It's good to see Chess.com finally taking some action against such anti-social elements. The only question now is. Who's next?

I wrote this in another forum post but i will post it here to get the message across.

The lesson Chess.com is trying to teach us is a simple one. "Be helpful, relevant and nice or you will be muted or your account will be closed".  As In life, if you don’t learn a lesson, then that lesson will keep presenting itself to you until you do.

The purpose of a forum is:

  1.  To give advice to other users.
  2.  To help motivate and inspire other users.
  3.  A place where people of all ages and backgrounds can discuss related topics in a safe and friendly environment.

Unfortunately, the chess.com forum has turned into the wild west. Some of the issues I have noticed in my short time here is:

  1. Elitism - Stronger players constantly mocking weaker players who are just starting out on their journey.
  2. Personal attacks- Users often insulting or degrading another user.
  3. Attention seeking- Users creating content with the sole purpose of bringing attention to themselves.

I am afraid to say that of all the forums I have been involved in, the chess.com forums are amongst the worse when it comes to cyberbullying. I am often amazed how evil people can be once they are hiding behind an avatar.

There is trolling and then there is trolling.  Some light humour is not a bad thing.  Mods have a sense of humour too, and can appreciate some of the more clever attempts at trolling.  However, taken in the wrong direction, it can be a problem.

A good quote I once heard: "If the other person isn't laughing, it's not called funny, it's called mean."

nimzomalaysian, Thank you

I personally would like to see chess.com publicly address antisocial behaviour. It could be in the form of a video or a post from a representative of the chess.com administration.

Urk and Cherub_Enjel were trolls? I haven't come to the forums much recently but I always thought they were among the more helpful forum regulars. Maybe Urk was a little trolly sometimes, but he also would analyze games and stuff for people... And Cherub_Enjel was always helping out newbies.

What did they do exactly to get themselves kicked?

But i cannot understand what does using the forum as a personal playground mean?

ILoveJingWen

@McDirtalot

Nice one.

Yes you are pretty new.

I have used these forums for years but have closed accounts before due to the abuse on these forums, but now I just block them,

Once you have been here for a bit longer you will figure them out.

They work as a group and they bump targeted topics, the more controversial the topic the better.

They fan the flames, stoke the fires by constantly bumping those targeted topics, until it catches fire.

Once the mod posts something they descend in a perverse feeding frenzy, they have to post at the end of the topic just before it is locked by the mod.

Some sort of sick prize to them.

The problem that they have now is that normal people on the forums are blocking them so they are getting squeezed into the same topic where they end up trolling each other, you will often find about 6 or more trolls now on the same topic, it is pathetic really, no more rich pickings like they had in the past.

I actually like a good troll, one with style, the problem on this website however is that all the wannabe trolls are actually spammers, they don't know the difference.

@Robert_New_Alekhine was generally a pretty good troll.  Only got himself in trouble once, that I remember.

The OP is a troll him self. He had personal problems against Cherub_enjel because of Cherub's disagreements with Sonofthunder2 who accidentally is their closest friends. He and Sanju_1966 find an opurtunity to take revenge from Cherub by reporting to Staff that Cherub posted racist comments, which was totally wrong, based on what chess.com staff has already admitted!

Nimzomalaysian problem is not that Cherub or every Cherub trolls the forums! What you see here is a personal vendetta and nothing more!

Where was chess.com community sensitivity here ? https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/why-so-many-indians-here-on-chesscom

Bishop_g5

Why Nimzomalaysian didn't reported this OP months before Cherub? Why he was not so sensitive before?
