that's whats wrong with people these days, you never keep yourself from making negative criticism but you always stay quite when you actually need to speak.

Chess.com was founded in 2005. Internet chess was already present for at least 10 years at that point.
Also, amateur chess players (young and old) were playing blitz all around the world many decades before that.

You are scrutinizing the details, there is a significant point there which seems like many people are simply missing it..
It's not chess.com or lichess, it's not which is better, it's not crawling and it's not creepy..
Imagine for a second, if chess.com just disappeared, removed or closed. How would it affect the chess world, I just watched wesley vs. magnus stream yesterday.. danny was the host.. again, it was all live and fun, with hess commentating and some other masters. Remember another stream, another tournament, another organization.. who hosted it? Who made it possible and brought to us? now Imagine all those are just gone..
it's not wrong to show appreciation for the things you have, but seems like only negativism are commonly accepted, people feel like there is something wrong here.

I would like to add on-chess.com is better for paying members, while lichess is better for free ones.
Before chess.com there was just chess here and there, mostly old people used to play. After queen's gambit and chess.com.. the world has changed. some streamers also contributed, levy (like him or not) hikaru chesbrahs.. even rossen, they all did their parts.
Now youngsters play chess, chess is not a bald head old guy's sport anymore.. Bullet timecontrol also helped the transition (even though i don't approve it, it still helped to make chess more popular)
But chess.com has a special role, erik and jay maybe didn't dream this much of success, what they did, just grew big.. huge. and become almost chess itself. there is this lichess too but in making-organizations-wise chess . com led the community, formed the community.. became the community. with all those live streams and many GMs are working on them as commentators (danny is already a gameshow host in his core..)
We got to know all elites just by their shows, without chess . com there would only have been old fide tournaments, all official and all serious.. here we are having fun.. and this is something.
