1. i view the video lessons and they are quite informative to me . they do teach a lot of useful stuff in it . on a scale of 10 i give these lessons a 6 . i have seen other videos which are much better .
2. i read the articles and yes i will admit many are not worth reading . but you do see articles that are very instructive . i have found many articles that are beneficial to my game-improvement . i have bookmarked these articles and read them again and again .but to find these useful articles you have to read and check out many articles that wastes some time .
3. i like silmann because he has written books in such a manner that even a beginner can grasp complex concepts of chess by reading his books . the beauty of his books is that his method works . you can see his method working on board when you sit down to play a game .
4 . well i personally would prefer a complete series of books from GM compared to articles here . i cant compare the complete site with it .it would be unfair .you see a lot of tips and helpful info at chess.com that you won't get from GM books . you can find partners here who are willing to play training matches with you and analyse games with you .these two characteristics gives chess.com dominance over GM books .
note : this is my personal view .i don't mean to offend anyone .
Hi guys,
I would like to start a little discussion regarding the Diamond-contents of chess.com and the usefulness for beginners.
In chess.com I get that sneaky feeling, telling me that everyone can create articles, write blogs, post Videos and explain/Analyse something which just can't be 100% professional and always right. It's like having Nugget-Information everywhere scattered (and spammed) on this site. Something like a chaotic Wikipedia full of nuggets and with an always present ghost of a man, which nobody outside the U.S. really knows: Jeremy Silman.
How is this complete site with all the beginner material compared to a series of books from GM's?
Why do the majority of People here like this Silman more than Jusupov (spelled differently across the globe), Seirawan etc.?
Do you really need the Chess Mentor and it's "No you are wrong"-Puzzles in all Courses? Or does Chessimo a better Job in a more silent and ordered learning-environment?
How do you beginners work with chess.com? Do you read any "How To" articles and what are they worth for you?
Thanks in advance guys!
