Chess.com removed 45 | 45 option

It was hard enough to find opponents for 45 | 45 anyway

Now it is not one of the options, unless you play custom.

I tried playing 60 minutes but it ruins my game, in my last 2 games I opened great for my rank but then started to blunder in the last 10-15 minutes.

It makes no sense chess.com don't support this game option, because who wants to play fast has other options.

Anything can be done?

They don't redo the default time controls very often.  I'm sure they looked at the popularity of the various choices.  Unfortunately for you, not many people play 45|45.

/ There's an unmatched 45|45 game in Open Challenges right now.

As far as I can see, it is still there. you just have to click on more, and both 60|0 and 45|45 are there.

@justbefair

Is this some beta feature (removing this time control as the default one), because I can still see it?

CarbonGlacier

In the android app it hasn't change yet. But on the website there is 10|5 now instead.

I have no beta... happy

The only explanation I have is that the changes will affect everyone, but not at the same time. This was the case when they were adjusting some ratings as well.

If that is the case, it will change for me in the next few hours/days.

Anyway, I really dislike it, not only that chess.com doesn't have a standard/classical rating, they have apparently decided to cut down on one of the 2 really long game formats, so they can include more shorter time controls for people that were already pretty spoiled for choice.

Let me be clear, I don't mind the inclusion of new time formats, but I am certainly against deleting an existing one.

CarbonGlacier

Yes, I agree. That's the same explanation that came to my mind as well.
Maybe there is more change in the near future like long game formats as a seperate category. I would appreciate it very much.

I sent a message to customer support. I don't plan to keep my paying subscription if I can't play the game I love. I urge you to do the same.

Hmm. Looks like they added 10|5. That is actually good news for me. I lose a lot of 10 0 games on time.

How come there is no news article on this? For instance, there is a news article for a relatively minor thing - recommended daily matches, which can be turned off and on and it doesn't really affect too much.

As a contrast, a few percent of people were actively playing 45|45, and introduction of some new time controls is certainly more impactful change, and yet I don't see the article regarding this.

45 | 45 is the only time control for beginners like me who want to calculate their move.
It can't be done in any other time control, beginner don't calculate fast enough.

So there are few players but we have no other option.
In ny last 2 games I started blitzing in the last 10-15 minutes, it is sucks.

Below 1 500, it is not that difficult to find a game (though I account both 60|0 and 45|45 in this category, I feel that approximately equal number of people play both, perhaps 60|0 a little bit more though). I would say that you will get a game in 5 minutes if you are ok with playing any of those 2 time controls. That is I would say manageable when you are searching for a long game.

Over 1 500 it is really a pain, it can pass 20+ minutes till I see 1 600+ player sometimes in 45|45 or 60|0 pool.

Now, I understand what you are saying, I actually slightly prefer 45|45 to 60|0, because in more complicated games, time is a bigger factor in 60|0. I wholeheartedly salute that you are playing these longer games, and I agree that they are great for improvement.

On the other hand, I have to say that the main competitor's longest game is 30|20 which is shorter than 60|0 here.

But in my opinion, they shouldn't do this. I understand the part of the reason, they probably want to make one longer time control more significant instead for instance 3.5% and 2.5% of users playing these 2, but still I really dislike it.

My advice for you is to play both 45|45 and 60|0, just because there isn't enough people in a single of those 2 pools. You will get the hang of 60|0 time control pretty fast.

If you need some advice, feel free to ask by the way. happy.png

The site doesn't post articles for every change, and of those that do they are usually either bigger features or put in the monthly updates.

You can still play it and if another member enters the same time control and has otherwise compatible settings, you can still get paired.

And is the reason why I can't see this change yet because of what I've said:

Or is there some other explanation?

Anyway, I feel that this is a significantly bigger change than that daily recommended game that can be turned off and on, but ok.

if you can't play 45|45, you should play 30|30!
