I have a LEAP Chess Timer and think it's great for casual players who don't tend to use a timer when playing. I've converted quite a few friends to wanting to use one and this is very affordable at the $20-$30 range. You can get them on Amazon, just search "LEAP Chess Timer".

Last year I gave my dad a digital picture frame loaded with classic chess game snapshots and photos from over-the-board events we went to.
