Chess.com Feature Request and Wishlist #4

Here's an idea, make some sort of community commentary system on the tactics training for those who aren't actually understanding the results. I've come across a few that I have no idea why the solution was what it was.

You could have some kind of voting or scoring system so the highest voted commentary or comment thing is shown.

I've got another one too that I just thought of :P

When you are in Live play, automatically disable the site's opening explorer from being viewed by that user until they close the Live window. I played recently against a guy who I swear was using it. Yeah, people could still go to another site or use a different reference, but at least they wouldn't get the idea to use this one.

Book of openings has too many openings (not a bad thing)

Caro-Kann Defense: Accelerated Panov Attack, Pseudo-Scandinavian (B10)?????????????

Alekhine Defense got 3 pages.

Could they be arranged in folders?

Alekhine defense in 1 folder with all variations. .. for example.

and some openings are soo stupid that do not deserve to be called opening.

it is a good start (opening book) but it needs some improvement.

apologies if the following has already been covered here.

I would like to see a button perhaps marked "any" in the conditional moves window.

In the position below white has just played R(f1)b1 to ensure the queening of his a pawn.

After blacks next move white just wants to push the a pawn so the move sequence could run

1.......any

2. a4   any

3. a5   any

4. a6

I appreciate black could easily resign this position but if he plays on the "any" button would speed up the conditional moves function.

It's the 3rd item on Eric's Wishlist #4:

Improve conditional moves (add in draw, wildcard, ajax, opening book, etc)

Does this refer to updating the Captured Pieces in the Details tab as you replay the moves (rather than always displaying the final state of Captured Pieces as you rewind/wind forward through the moves)?

A separate issue with Captured Pieces is that it is not updated dynamically - but only after you press SUBMIT. (So you can't see the effect of a capture until the next move).

I've got another idea, and I know I've had quite a few now :P

This site already has a sort of trophies system, but this could be so much much more. Anyone here with an Xbox 360 knows how the achievements system works. Once you accomplish a certain goal, you get what is called achievement points. For example, if you beat a game you may get 50 points or if you accomplish some difficult task you might get 10.

You can have a similar system here with all kinds of different goals to accomplish. For example, if you win 5 games in a row you could get some sort of achievement and a certain number of points. If you win 10 games in a row, you get another achievement with even more points. If you solve X number of tactics correctly or have XX% total correct you could also get points. There's literally hundreds of things that could award points. What do you think of that?

It would be quite nice if there was a "View Tactics Trainer" option along with the online chess, and live chess options on someone's profile.
On live chess in blitz it says "Best win: N/A"

The send a message to another member is always a little tricky to me.

Can you have on all pages this feature?.

There are several ways to achieve sending a message (in case Erik feels that this function is not fundamental enough to qualify for a place alongside PLAY LEARN READ FORUMS RESOURCES MEMBERS GROUPS LOCAL FUN etc.)

  1. Click on the person's name. Click on Leave a Message (top right - under Actions).
  2. Hover the mouse over My Home, click on Messages, click on Compose new message (top right - under Messages).
  3. Click on MEMBERS, click on Search Members. Enter their name. Click on Search. When you've found the right person, click on Send Message.

A 2.5D interface would have to overcome some pretty stiff opposition on this site ...

Make it become 3D - Chess.com

2D Board vs. 3D Board - Chess.com

how you view chess - Chess.com

INTERFACE - Chess.com

2D or not 2D - Chess.com

Don't Play on the PC!!! - Chess.com

to real to be true - Chess.com

OTB chess vs Internet chess - Chess.com (physical interface to netchess)

How about appling other chess features, like Atomic chess, crazy chess, chichen chess, chess 960 ......etc!

For on a couple of sites theses are taking serious and is great for ones concentration, also a lot of fun!

This is already on the wishlist (#40, FYI) in the initial posting.

(Erik: would you consider NUMBERING the wishlist items [without any implied priority, of course] rather than bulletting them?)

My big gripe is that someone living in London (e.g.) could either pick England as their nationality, or United Kingdom. Since they're the same place, it makes little sense. Why can't we have one or the other? I.e. UK or Eng/Sco/Wal/NI?

Is it possible to have an international aspect to the site, too? E.g. when someone from (e.g.) France plays someone from Germany, there can be a rating list for all the countries of the world who use this site? Or nation v nation matches, either through vote chess where stacks of UK nationals play Romanian nationals or something, or through getting a national "captain" to pick some players of his team to play players of another team?

You will have seen this initiative ...   http://www.chess.com/forum/view/community/new-group-team-canada-teams-for-each-country-discuss  and the strategic alliances notion based on existing realpolitik?

instead of asking for features on each page, how about a customisable page where you can select and organise the items you want to appear ie games, vote chess, daily puzzle, tactics trainer, active tournaments etc.

Well, in my view it's simple, because in chess, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own federations. So surely, the site should reflect that. So get rid of UK, and introduce its four constituants. Thankyou for passing on those links, I hadn't seen it.
