I like it -- I'd envisioned one, site-wide ladder, but the group ladders and pyramids are a great idea too.

I agree with you guys, group ladder support would be fantastic. Many groups have them, and the group admins have their work cut out for them keeping track of games, updating status, chasing up non-responders to ladder challenges etc.

Two features I would like to see

1) An option to remove time limits in the tactics trainer - I want to train tactics, not how fast I am

2) Forced moves in an online game should be made automatically so we dont have to wait for the opponent to login and move

No way. Correspondence chess still allows you to take the full time even for a forced move, and many players do. After all you can use that time to think about the next 10 moves also... usually when a player has only one move, they are in trouble. Its not right to hit someone with a surprise check, play your follow up and then have the timer start ticking before they even see the forced move.

Besides, how impatient are you? Only a very small percentage of moves in chess allow only 1 reply. Just set a conditional move as you know what they will play and the game will speed up a little that way- they won't have to wait for you to login and move, nor can they "think on your time."

I am unaware if the had been mentioned within the context of these posts but have you ever considered Live Chess Tournaments? Why, not?! Erik and staff, I demand that you address and consider this topic sincerely; it could be very beneficial to the site and to the community as well.

of course we have :) but live chess isn't stable yet :)

Vacant- I've seen a few Live tourneys but various mods and players in my time. They do ok, but DC's really kill them. Don't fret, Erik loves a good tourney.

Yes

i would like to see a easier way to deal with live chess tournaments like i would like to see in the play colunm i would like to see a thing that says live chess tournamnets and i would like to see a thing where you can create your own tournament and in fact there is a group for live chess tourney's http://www.chess.com/groups/home/live-chess-tournament

right now the only way to do it is post in on a forum of the group and tell everyone to play their games

 GREAT IDEA!!!

Maybe an option to make group tourneys?  I know that it is possible, and has been done; I am doing one myself!   (Through a seperate group made for the purpose), but maybe they could be made like tourneys for players?

Thanks,

Erik and Staff, forgive me if this has already been mentioned ,but it would be great if a 'Submit Move' button could be added to live chess. However, some people might not want the button, so it could be enabled/disabled in our live chess settings. I mention this merely because a persons hand could easily slip off of their mouse as they were making a move, causing no end of frustration at the 'blunder'. thank you.

I'd like the moves to be timestamped, in both the move list on the game board and pgn.  I think this is useful information that is being lost.

Also, the chat messages in the game board should be stamped by time and move.

Yes, and yes.  The time-zone issue is not insurmountable, after all we deal with it in the forums by forcing everyone to use Pacific Time.

I would like to see a clock at the side of my opponent's flag, so we now what time it is in each country.

i would like a button that directly connects you to a super GM called "what in the world should i do in this kind of position??" :)

I don't use Pacific Time in the forums. I'm currently on British Summer Time. I'll change back to GMT when the clocks change. It is possible to change the time shown in posts- just go to your settings.

I did not realize -- thanks for the tip.  I'm now officially on Mountain Time.

Gerik - In live chess, or in the trainer, instead of dragging the piece to the square you want to move to, first click the piece once, then click the target square. I find this is less error prone, although a little slower sometimes. However if you are prepared to use a Submit Move button then I don't think that will be an issue.
