I'm not seriously suggesting it's urgent - but this IS a wishlist, right?

It all depends on your point of view - whether you regard these two characters as the same ...

(The guy on the right is the one who wrote: "Post all site feature requests here and we'll get to them as soon as humanly possible!" in May 2007. The guy on the left, on the other hand, wrote:

"suggestions welcomed :) We have been a little slower to respond to the suggestions lately as we focus on Live Chess and iPhone" in July 2009.)

I got one, when you log into chess.com, and type in your PASSWORD wrong, it takes you into the login screen and says your USERNAME or EMAIL ADRESS is wrong.

There should be an alert/report system to tell staff something about the thread (just like a click, no typing or anything, so the UNBIASED staff can go see for him/herself.

On the first one, best practice is actually to say "Either your Username or Password is Incorrect" so you don't actually know which one you got wrong, but it doesn't matter here because everyone can see valid username just by perusing the forums.  I think it currnetly says "Username or E-Mail" because you can use either to log on.

On the second, I assume you mean a "Report this Post" link on each post?  I think it's a great idea.

I've noticed in a few locked threads that the occasional comment is added after the lock.  I presume that this is the case because locking a thread stops users from seeing the post-entry box at the time the page is loaded as opposed to stopping them from being able to succesfully submit a post at the time they hit the sumbit button.

Wouldn't it make more sense the other way around?

I've got an ongoing game in which I just entered a whole bunch of conditional lines, and out of curiousity I entered the same first move from my opponent twice on seperate lines and was not stopped.  What's going to happen here?  Will the first conditional line simply be chosen?  I entered the same second move on both lines because I don't really want to make an inferior move, but what if I hadn't?  Shouldn't I be prevented from being able to do this?

I'll throw in a couple of conditional moves feature requests while I'm at it:

  • An if "anything" condition
  • The ability to combine lines that arrive at an identical position back into a single line from that position.

Speaking of locked threads, I was tracking a thread that got locked. I can no longer "untrack" it, but I really have no more interest in it now that it's locked. It would be nice if when threads are locked, the tracking information was not locked. If that's possible given the structure of your database.

It's a bigger problem after you've left a group I believe.  There should be a central place where you can delete alerts without requiring you to go back to each thread to do so.

It really doesn't matter.  Once the thread is locked you won't be getting any alerts from it.

Sure, but if I go to "Topics I am Tracking" it's going to be sitting there forever. Minor annoyance, but if it can be fixed that would be nice.

"Topics I am Tracking" would be the perfect place for an "Untrack This Topic" checkbox right next to each one.

This is a small idea.  Under the submit move button for turn-based chess, could one of the options be "Stay on this game and open conditional moves."  I do that a lot, and it would be a small convenience.

Even better would be the ability to enter conditional moves when it was your move.  This would require a small change to the way conditional moves currently work in that instead of comitting each move of your line as you enter it you'd have to be able to enter a line and then commit the whole thing at once, which, if it was your turn, would trigger your first move.

(Cue my incessent and repeated requests for integration of the conditional moves and analysis board interfaces into a single interface with a "Commit Line" button, followed with my questioning of why, if chess.com were to do that, it needed to even be a different interface than the main game board...).

My request is a pyramid blocker-like thing to prevent page 20 from ever happening again.

It would be very cool if quoted content was collapsible and expandable on a tree menu and anything more than say three quotes deep was collapsed by default.

yes, good idea! there are lots of arguments out there than quote other people, but they can just say "post number #43" or something, then write their text/stuff, or whatever. something like that.

I dont know if this was poster before, but I am to lazy to browse 30 pages.

When it is not my move in any game, page autorefresh after any of my opp make a move. But if it is my move in 1 or any other no. of games, then autorefresh does not happen.

Anyone else has this problem?

If you don't have too many games on the go, just open different windows, one for each oponent that's online, it works for me & the last one I scrool all my games where the people are offline, yo!

I'd like to see a scheme for grouping discussions relating to a single feature or tool e.g. the Analysis Board. There have been many separate forum topics discussing changes and new proposals - but they are all over the place, and difficult to keep track of.

One possibility would be to extend the chess.com community forum category, by introducing subcategories for tools such as the Analysis Board (and move the most relevant existing discussions into it).

Keyword tagging of all forum topics would be an even better option.
