Chess.com Feature Request and Wishlist #6

This is a suggestion that might help the members that play rapidly on turn base. when I check a players rating and their win loss stats. It would be nice if we could check those past games from that section. Instead of having to go through the archives. This would help cosiderably, especially if a player only has a couple losses. Thanks for your time!

I'm not quite sure what you want. Do you want sorting by result, so you can get to the losses? Or perhaps an advanced search? You can use Game Explorer, which will show you where the losses are along the opening bracnhes.

Print Board Command

(My apologies if this has already been suggested. To be quite honest, I'm just too lazy to read through 35 pages of posts.)

There are times when I would like to print the current board position and carry it with me on my daily travels (I'm a salesperson) so I can study it in more detail and decide which game-losing move I wanna make next. It would be nice to have a single tag that I can click to print a very simple depiction of the board in B&W (e.g. "print-friendly" version).

I can use the File > Print... command, but for some reason, the squares never print. I just get a giant solid white board with pieces on it. Then I have to go back and sketch-in the lines. And sometimes it prints two pages instead of one and it includes the color which is unecessary.

Just a thought. The site rocks.

try print-screening the board

I tried mentioning it while I watched your live broadcast yesterday, but I realize its probably difficult to respond to so many people while trying to also get across points of your own. Anyways, my request would be to try to create a way that would make it much easier for people like me to coach. It is relatively difficult to coach people on this site as it stands. For example, it would be really nice if we could set a position, as we do with the puzzles, and be able to play through them with students. Just a thought, and I'm sure this isn't the first time you've heard it. Oh yeah, rock solid job on the site overall man. I can't even tell you how much I love this place, and the direction you are taking it.

Peace.

Print Board Command (not)

Please disregard my request. A fellow member (KnightNotHorse) informed me to toggle the "Print Background" checkbox under File > Page Setup... Now it works like a charm. Cool.

Hmmm this probably has been said (not even sure how old this post is) but it could be nice that in Live chess, if someone disconnects, it starts a countdown to see if you can make it on time, or if that is too troublesome, let the opponent decide if he/she wants to abort the game -with the countdown as well- (in case he/she is losing or feels like the game is not decided doesnt want to win like that).

Thanks for reading.

Probably a good idea.  A good progression.  But it is all time for the chess.com staff.  And I imagine they are VERY busy.  But a sensible step forward if the time is available.

Here's something I'd like to see:

The possibility to use the computer analysis feature for ANY game you submit (e.g. in PGN format), and not just games you've played yourself.

That would be extremely useful.

Avatar of Lord-Chaos

Thats a neat idea chessoholicanlien, there should be a feature called "analyse your game", you click it, and you submit your game. The current way of doing it now, it should now become a link to that new feature page with all the details already filled in about the game, and you just hit "submit game for analyse" or something. Good idea =)

May have been mentioned, can we have bughouse chess?

Please

I like that idea, it is a huge problem for me just asking people to wait doesn't allways work.

New entering criteria for tournaments

I got an idea  that could speedup many tournaments as I see it, of course I am not an expert but hope it will make some people brain storming about it.

Maximum # of active games of a player when a tournament starts.

I try to explain:
I am organizing a tour myself and noticed that the last game in the 1th round takes forever to finish, and thought how come?

This is what I found in my tour, but is similar to other tour I have looked too!
Player ‘a’ has 50+ games and player ‘b’ has almost 600 of them.
When you move and go to the next game it takes the one that has the less time left, but with 500 games it can take a while before your game will be the next one that almost is at the time limit!

In my tour I got a 5 days move time limit and my player ‘b’ only moves when the times almost up. (Last day surely, because he plays also games with one move a day rule)  Completely within the rules and they are not doing this on purpose, they just love to play, and play game after game.

So I think that a nice idea would be

Maximum active games selection for entering a tour

50 – 100 – 200 – no limit.

So these were my two cents.

Curious what reactions this brings!

I know that you have a lot on your plate, but these would be a big improvement, I think:

1. Team Tournaments

Many people have set up Team Tournaments.  However, presently this is a very difficult task (I am currently running one myself).  It would be fantastic if there was an option to create Team Tournaments like you can create player tournaments at the moment.  Super-admins could then add their team, and the Team Matches or Vote Chess Matches would be set up automatically. I think this would be absolutely amazing, and an incredible feature to what is an incredible website.  I know it's easy for us to write things here, and every improvement is a LOT of work if it is to be done, but this really would be fantastic.

2. Sportmanship Rating

This idea came from Komoliddin's forum:

http://www.chess.com/forum/view/community/sportsmanship-rating?lc=1#last_comment

However, I believe it has not been posted in this thread yet, so I thought I'd post it.  When you finish a game, it would be really nice if you could rate your opponent (out of five stars) on his sportsmanship during the game.  The average of all these ratings would become a detail that shows up when someone challenges you.  If there rating is really low, then you might want not to accept.

Just a couple of ideas everyone is free to ignore completely!!  :)

Lots of games does not necessarily tanslate to slow play? Surely, time per move is going to be a more realistic statistic.

I agree, that's why i brought it up for more brain-storming!

Personaly i think that when someone plays 500+ games he/she is playing for the game and not for the tournament standing (i can be wrong on that, but it's my thoughts) So a max # of active games could result drasticly in tour times. We all see that most tornament rounds hangs on a handfull of games, mostly played by people playing 'many' games at the same time.

But yes times par move does filter (most) out too!

I'd like to see after a vote chess game an option for the computer analyses, yo!

Avatar of Kacparov

I disagree Karl, I could get 200 games and play very fast, I had 116 once and they were going very quickly.

Avatar of prashanth21

Erik, keep a option such that we can go on vaction without completing the games.

vaction means there is a job which is much more important so what is the use of completing all the games when we desire to go vaction.
