Chess.com Feature Requests and Wishlist #3

I'd like to have a "My Vote Chess Games" pane somewhere.  I'm currently having to surf through a bunch of links just to get to the place the link to my vote-chess game is posted.  I also think there may be some bugs around the "edit post" feature in vote chess when there are multiple tabs -- I tried to edit a post under the "Public Comments" tab and it looked like it was going to go into the "Team Comments" tab so I decided not to submit.

Finally, I'd like to be able to see who's on the other team so I can harangue them individua..., er, see who's on the other team.  I also think it would be handy to see the highest rated player on each team on the team stats under the "Team Members" tab.

That's all (for now).

I'll second the "My VoteChess Games" comment, and also a link to VoteChess Team Members.

I don't know if this has come up, but I'd love to see some sort of forum comment moderation system, a la Slashdot.com.   I know that would be probably be a huge undertaking, but this is a "wish" list!

I third both of those suggestions

The chess board that appears,When you play live chess....

It would be cool, if you can drag the pieces to rearrange them. The 29.95 deal, looks good to me............

When playing Live Chess, there is the "Main Hall" window in the upper left.  Currently, if one clicks on the "players" tab they get an alphabetatized list of players.  It would be neat if the list could also be ordered by strength rating in quick, blitz, or long game.   That way you could look for players in your strength range with the time constraint you want.

Could we have the vote chess games we've entered show up in our normal "my games" list? As a temporary stopgame I'm adding the one to my "favorites" in my webbrowser for easy access, but technically one has to chase it down by going to vote chess, then checking the box to shw the group games, then going through the pages to find it...

or at the very least, a link to the current group chess vote game displayed somewhere within the group?

sorry paul - i've been kinda on vacation this week.

the items on this list represent roughly 2,000 hours of programming.

  • Fix Live Chess :) (200 hours)
  • Teams & Leagues (200 hours)
  • Team vs. Team Vote Chess (DONE)
  • Annotate games while in progress (120 hours)
  • Game management tools (download all PGNs, add offline games, tag, etc) (160 hours)
  • Improve conditional moves (add in draw, wildcard, ajax, etc) (20 hours)
  • Improve "play against the computer" (40 hours)
  • A "play from this position vs. computer" feature to practice situations (20 hours)
  • Coaching mode (with takebacks) (10 hours)
  • Sort games list (2 hours)
  • Ability to choose which tab to start with in echess (some people prefer moves) (8 hours)
  • Improved analysis board (ALMOST DONE)
  • Timestamp messages/moves in echess (8 hours)
  • Tools for coaches (in live chess especially) (200 hours)
  • Open PGN editor & analysis board (40 hours)
  • Ability to insert games into non-chess.com blogs (like blogger, etc) (20 hours)
  • Mobile/iphone support (200 hours)

  • Tournament game PGNs should have correct "Event" name (2 hours)
  • Wall-to-wall notes (like facebook) (20 hours)
  • Show what place I finished in "Completed Tournaments" (4 hours)
  • Allow to post birthdate, or year, but not both (10 hours)

The items on this list are roughly 1500-2000 development hours worth of work. That's about 9-12 months worth, plus additional QA and other costs. Maybe $150k worth. But it isn't just about that - it's about having the top quality developers to do them. We don't have enough developers. :)

I'll be waiting for the check... :)

Just teasing. We also have to account for the items that give the most bang for the buck (most impact for as many players as possible). We work as quickly as we can!

I was to reiterate the Iphone request. I think that's going to be a great moneymaker for Chess.com and will add to the base of players at the site.

A wildcard on conditional moves would help accelerate long games in the opening. I like that idea.

I think another thing is essential - the clock keeps ticking down on Chess Mentor when a lesson is over...while you're looking at your rating change. This is kind of silly.

Guessing its a quick fix

If a $150,000 donation is out of the question (Tongue out), one practical way to help Erik achieve these goals is by purchasing a membership. And you don't have to stop at one! You can always gift a membership to one of this site's outstanding contributors. :)

Terrific! Cool  In many ways, the analysis board is where the rubber meets the road. Every improvement to it enhances our experience of the game.

could we have a way of flagging certain games in our turnbased games list? it would be usefull to be able to mark certain games as 'losing' or 'winning' or 'drawish' etc, that way if you have a lot of games on the go, it is easy to pick out the games that you think need more time, ie the ones you aren't doing too well in...i think this would be very usefull....im sure there are better names for the tags or flags too :-) 'winning' 'losing' and 'drawing' were just examples :-)

I say they should put in variants to chess.com like beyond chess, omega chess, losing chess, dark chess, chess 960, chess empire, bughouse chess, and forgien chess like shogi.

Avatar of CrimsonMadness

Just a minor suggestion, but I'd like to see improved chess.com profiles.

Specifically, the ability to add multimedia.

Avatar of TheGrobe

I think that option is available for premium members.

Speaking of profiles, I've often wondered why there are two seperate profiles (personal versus online chess) with some common menu items, but not full congruity.  I'd like to see them collapsed down into one profile.

Paul211:  While I'm sure Erik would welcome an additional $150K, I think (and I stress that I'm not speaking for Erik or chess.com) that fundamentally it is because chess.com is a business not a charity.  I can imagine a lot of users being off-put by a request for a donation from a for-profit site.

A "go to next ready game" link, like in all game screens, on the screen you get to after you've awarded a trophy to someone. Right now you have to go back to your online chess and then click on the game. Just thought I'd mention it, it's on all game pages, but just not there ;)

you can change this setting already. you just have to go to the settings tab uner my home and click on the box that will allow you to go to the next ready game.

Avatar of Apoapsis

I apologize if this has been said already, I haven't read through the thread.

It would be nice if you could "customize" your set: Light squares are this color, dark are that color, coordinates are in this color, as that size, the bishops look like that, rooks like this, etc. like you make a theme. That would be sweet!

Is any of it HTML? I'm not very good (Text and linksEmbarassed) but I could help!

I want to be able to get rid of the 'greeter' games that last 2 moves.  They are bringing my average opponent stat down, increasing my win percentage and giving me long winning streaks for nothing.  These should not count for stats and should be deletable by the more experienced player.
