Chess.com Feedback: Sort games list

Sort:

Online opponents at the top of the list. There are a lot of other ways that would be useful but this is the one I know I would use.

artfizz

Being able to sort current games by the last time I moved would be useful. Curently, the 10 games displayed are sorted by least-time-to-move. The games on which I have just moved are likely to be the ones where my opponent is online, and likely to move again. It's a bit tedious, if I want to look at a game I have moved on a few minutes earlier (but it is not now my move), if I have to go through Show All Games.

artfizz

Regarding the Games Archives (Recent Games): the most recent 10 completed games are shown in the default view. Whilst this gives a quick indication of current form, it would be more accurate indicator of current form if there was an option to exclude easy wins and hard losses i.e. games where the rating difference between the players wass greater than some value (specified in My Options), say 300.

artfizz

An ordering for current games that I would find useful is to sort the games by difference in points taken (in descending order). This would be an approximation to the games I am most likely to lose being at the top of the list.

Kacparov

1) Time left

2) # of moves

3) Tournament game/Team Match game/Friendly game

4) Opponent's rating

5) Opponent status

The implementation of this feature must be getting a little closer. Wink

I would love this option as well.  It would be VERY useful.

Ditto.

I have only one game going now (I won't be here for some of the summer) but when I'm overloaded with two tournaments and a dozen team matches... it's the perfect tool to make the games go faster.

and here's an illustration I prepared earlier.

CURRENT VIEW on the left.    SORTED BY ONLINE STATUS on the right.

I even had a post here :D

... and yet it still didn't get implemented!

One risk with adding this feature is that it may catch some people out who expect the most urgent games to always be at the top of the list. Making it non-sticky (so it always defaults to the current view) overcomes this - but makes it less useful overall.

should we just do this by default then? show all games by time where it is your move and your opponent is online, then all games where it is your move and opponent offline, then all games where it is your opponent's turn to move?

CoachConradAllison

Can we have options in our preferences?

assume right now that you can't and that we need one standard. why? because this is one of the toughest queries on our database load....

Puchiko

I would agree with sorting by on-line status being default.

This would worry me a bit. First, I don't trust the online indicator. Secondly, if someone keeps going online then offline then online again, you're presumably not going to keep updating the listing to keep in step? Thirdly, if there are a lot of games with opponents online, games against offline opponents could be hidden on the next page and could timeout (though the Next Game will keep taking you onto the next game as long as it's your move).

artfizz

What about an alternative: leave the display in least-time-remaining order, but add another button Next Online Game (alongside Next Game) that brings up the next game where the opponent is online.

That doesn't seem like a very expensive database query.

Kacparov

I wouldn't like that by default. The problem is that I have 1000 games (going down :D) and "show all" shows only 240. If my opponent is online in more than 240 games, I won't see the other ones and I will time out! :(((

Provided the next game button kept the same behaviour that it currently has, you would just click on next game to take you to the game with the least time is remaining and where it's your move - irrespective of whether that opponent was online or not.

The best suggestion so far is in post #35. Wink

Yes I like that. But next game button doesn't work by me either.

If you open a game where it's your move from your list of current games, Next Game should take you to the next game in the list.

e.g. if you open the 4th game and click on Next Game, it should take you to the 5th game. Does it do something different for you?
