Chess.com Ratings vs. OTB

I am sure this question has been posed before but I could not find it right off.

Having no experience outside of internet chess - how do the ratings here at chess.com compare to other more official ratings.

I am looking for an approximate subtractor from the chess.com rating. I also know there are many variables so I am just looking for a "off the hip" range.

This has indeed been discussed many times before. The short answer is that 1. this is correspondence chess, and ratings at correspondence are higher than at shorter time limits; 2. internet ratings are inflated generally speaking; 3. there is no formula to convert between the OTB and chess.com ratings.

I'd assume that they are similar, with the chess.com rating being a tad bit higher in most cases.  This is, of course, as off the hip as you are going to get :).  See post 2 for a more accurate version.

Very different, I was looking up my USCF rating HA!!!!. Funny stuff, I haven't played in a USCF sanctioned tourney for 8 1/2 years. I have played in a few club tourneys in Skokie and around that area I even took a 2078 players crown in one ( my highest OTB win ever ). At the same time I played my friend who is a 2180 player and we played over 70 games. I drew 2 and lost the rest. Not that good yet. I would say my rating here is probably inflated. I am going to go do some tourneys and will get back to you on this. Problem is time! I have to find time to go play in some. I have been promising to go play the 2180 friend for about half a year and havent got down there yet. Saddest part is it is a only 40 minute drive too.

I will tell you and post my games. When this does happen.

I was just curious because having never played tournaments I wouldn't even know how to enter if I don't know my rating.

I estimate that the long live chess rating is about 100 points higher than your real rating.

My OTB rating is 100 pts higher than my turn-based chess.com rating.
