I had the same problem on 31 March with the pieces flashing, but it seems back to normal now. Perhaps it was happening while the site was being improved, as my moves were going through really slowly as well.
Looks a lot quicker now.
Google Chrome is great too - much faster than IE/Firefox (for me anyway).

On this dsl connection it does seem to be quite faster than I've ever seen it. Definitely Game Explorer is faster.
1. I am still using www.chess.com without problem So it seems "secure" will also work and is not mandatory.
2. While tracing the old moves, I preferred the older, slower animated movement of pieces from one square to another - now it the pieces just pop off from one and pops up in another square.

My pieces are sliding beautifully. I hated how slowly they were dragging before.

About differences in Chess.com performance... I would say that It was not just yesterday that I had some problems... I been noticcing this sort of problem at least 3 months, because sometimes when I am playing the page simply does not load and remains blank, besides that when I try to use the Tatics Trainer the page stops works and I have to keep pressing F5 until it has the will of working, sometimes it gets really stressful.
Site is most definately running faster, although I upgraded to diamond right around same time the servers were switched over so maybe I am not in a position to truely know.
One problem though is that ever since I switched over, the little meebo messenger at the bottom of my screen is no longer able to log on so I can talk to my friends.
Much faster and smoother! However, I can only make the first move for the daily puzzle.

Mine are not sliding. Any settings? I checked Online settings, but did not find anything.
Yes the pieces slides smoothly and they're cute
