That's pretty cool, Steevmartuns. My only concern is that 1850 seems to be your 'plateau'? I'm not sure what a plateau really constitutes (I haven't got to it yet)- what do you think?

Well, it's unfortunately the point at which some very lengthy games against weaker players that I started as a much weaker player came back to haunt me. Mistakes made when I wasn't as good were too much for me to correct even over such a long period of time, plus I let them last too long so the ratings kick would be much bigger. When you lose 50 rating points in one game, it hurts.
A ratings plateau probably indicates where you've reached a balance between games you can win and games you can't. For me, this comes at about 1850 - I usually win enough games against lower-rated players that my losses against higher/equal rated players are balanced out (and vice-versa, humorously). This also explains why I have a 67% win rate on Online Chess but can't raise my rating much. I've hit a limit, which will hopefully disappear after more tactics excercises and experience.
I see. So when you reach a plateau, you are rating-locked? And to unlock this, you must, quite simply, get better at chess, through study or play. I get it. Thanks!
Wow. That just blows my song out of the water!
I wouldn't be so hasty with praise- why not see if you actually improve first?
Good point!
I hope you liked my rap, Nytik. In case you didn't notice, it was directed at you.
Is there a ration you go for? Like 5 hours of live chess after every hour of tactics trainer?
I wonder how many hours of tactics trainer it'll take to pass 1800...

You got it. I think that the key at the 1800 level is to put more time and care into making each move, and to check absolutely EVERYTHING for a tactical possibility.

Excuse me? 5 hours of live chess? You have got to be kidding me!
To be honest, correspondence is where most of the improving takes place. Live is just where you show off your improved skills!

Maybe that was the problem. Live chess is basically all I do!
I figured that's the closest thing to a real game, so that's what I'm practicing for...
I had 35 online games going, and have been trying to bring that down. Are you now saying I should bring that up and do correspondence all day?
While we're at it, here's my Tactics Trainer graph:

What I'm saying is, if you're unable to find the combinations and tactics in a correspondence game, what hope have you for a live chess game?

In live, I'm usually playing only 2 games at a time, so I'm not rushed, like when I'm moving in my correspondence games. I spend 20 seconds maximum on each correspondence move and up to 30 seconds in live, since I play only games 25 minutes or more.

You should spend more time on your correspondence moves. Patterns will begin to become apparent to you, and your rating shall magically rise!

Wow, that practice got my Tactics Trainer to an all-time high! I did what you said, taking my time, and I did so much better! I didn't rush through and move in two seconds like I usually do, but thought about the position a little!
After only, what, an hour of Nytik's wisdom, my Tactics Trainer rating rises 500 points? This is deserving of another verse...
So I a-blazin' through chess, keepin' it real,
And then my homie-boy Nytik said,
"That's not the deal.
You've got to slow things down, put things in perspective;
And then your rating will suddenly be reflective
Of all the greatness and accumulated knowledge
That you've got this far, even more than in college!"
So I slowed things down, and now I'm rollin' real good,
Would I'a ask Nytik earlier if I could?
You bet I would!
Nytik! Nytik! Nytik!
He's so "G!"
Even helpin' losers like me!
Nytik! Nytik! Nytik!
He's so "G!"
If y'all agree, why'nt you sing with me?

How's this for my theme tune:
Nytik! Nytik!
Surely you must be impressed?
Makes learning easy to digest!
He'll calm you down so you're not stressed,
And so avoid cardiac arrest!
Nytik! Nytik!
What a wonder to behold!
His teaching tidbits are pure gold!
You'll learn chess mysteries untold!
Increase your rating by fourfold!
*Ahahahaha, Hey!*
Etc.
Here's my all-time graph.
I stuck in the mid-1400s for a while, but managed to jump to the mid-1500s over Christmas break. I then hit another spike in late Jan. where I jumped to the 1700s in a big hurry, almost bypassing 1600s altogether. Finally broke 1800 in early April and made it to my all-time peak (1924) just a week or two later. I've stayed mostly in the 1800s ever since.
I'm in a bit of a rough patch right now, and I might fall back to the 1700s for a little while. :P Nice upward trend Nytik, you've obviously been learning a lot as you go.
