What if people have the same names?!
Chess.com users should be REQUIRED to use REAL NAMES.
Its quite amazing the long period of time it takes for one successful scam.....
And about using our real names .......
What about those that don't have real names...
Over the past few months I have been having an on going conversations with several people from southeast Asia. There attention was kind and fun at first, I welcomed the friendly banter and looked forward to seeing their messages in my inbox. Over a period of weeks and hundreds of messages we got to know each other quite well. As a fairly well off individual myself when one began to discuss some personal family problems I happily agreed to help them a little financially. I guess they saw me for the sucker I was and over a few months I wound up sending over 20 bitcoins to in total to three different individuals. Only now I realize when I was left standing at Boryspil airport waiting for one of my friends to come visit on a plane ticket that I had paid for that I have been scammed! I meet these “ladies” on chess.com and I think we need a policy here that forces people to be under their true legal name. This would prevent the sort of fake people I have been dealing with from existing and keep the out of control children in line and perhaps we could report them to their parents. We need a “VERIFIED” tag next to user names like Twitter so we know who we can trust and their true ages and locations. Anonymity of the internet is horrible. Send no one bitcoins! Keep the children here responsible.
If you got tricked like a little stupid boy it's not our responsibility, just be smart next time...
Don't use chess.com as an outlet for 'hooking up' with people. Don't share personal information with people you don't know in real life and there is no need to. -end-
Non-anonymity is clearly the solution here: if they knew your real name and address, then half of asia and africa could send you begging letters.

Yeah, and stalkers would have a field day if that happened. (And you could stalk people like Carlsen... eerie xD) Look at my profile and it immediately deters stalkers...
Well that's insulted half the world. Well done.
I THOUGHT YOU WERE HALF THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!11

No caps please. Bit r00d.
Should we also be required to reveal our mother's maiden name, driver's license and social security numbers too?
Oh yeah, and our first pet's name, or our favorite place to vactaion.

Money cannot buy companionship, unless you have so much money that you can afford to keep buying it forever.
Few grand? Lucky you. Could have been homeless, stranded in Thailand, 400k deep because you sold your house trying to "find love and build a new life" there. That actually happens.
Sent them cash for a plane ticket? LOL. Let me guess: which one of "her" family members had cancer this time? Oldest scam in the book. If you really care about them, send them fruit baskets from 1-800-flowers. If they quit talking to you because you only send them fruit baskets then it should be pretty clear.
Pro tip: If you wanna meet people online, you should go to them. Plan on being stood up. Plan on them not being who they actually say they are. Plan on going golfing; gambling; and "grazing" instead. You will have a good time regardless, and you cannot ever be "scammed" or left "heart broken".
