Hmmm...that was odd timing...same country, same membership, same time, and almost the exact same format of the post! Makes ya' think

Shh!

The kids fide rating (the only one that matters because it allows players from across the globe to be compared) is 1607. That explains it all. Players like Carlsen, Karjakin, Sevian (look him up) were all about 2000 at his age. Titles are meaningless, just look at how strong a player is based on results internationally. Their fide rating. You can call a 2400 player a GM but if someone without a title kicks their butt repeatedly because theyre 2600 and haven't got a title, who's better?
Well, titles are solely for vanity purposes anyway.
I recall reading somewhere a while back that the (ECFx8) + 650 formula didn't work so well for grades below about 200, and they recommended something like (ECFx5) + 1250 instead. Is that still the case, or did the 'inflation adjustment' (aka free points for everyone's ego) they did a few years ago fix that issue? Or did I just make it up in my head somehow?

The exact formula has often changed. The formula given at the top of the page is the ECF's own current formula.

Wow, that really is weird! haha. I wasn't sure whether to put the brackets round it, because of BIDMAS (or BODMAS to some). But yes, very weird..

Was the program any good? I'm debating whether to watch it on channel 4 catch-up?
Yeah, it was okay. Some very bright children, especially the little Indian girl. The chess kid is no genius though, just the possessor of a very pushy mother. Poor little mite.
