Refusing to resign

So this is what the so called Resign button does. It's pretty dusty, never really felt like pressing it...

I refuse to resign all the time because of 3 reasons: 1) I am extremely stubborn, 2)  I rather keep on playing until I got checkmated or a stalemate, 3) I usually show no respect to my opponents. That is just my only humble opinion. Nothing else.

Conversely I had an opponent resign after they blundered their queen. The sad thing was I didn't see the blunder until after they resigned and was about to move a rook. So, there's that...

I don’t resign because the competitor in me says you go til it’s over.

This is kind of local poorness. I face it every time I play. As the otb club player I have never seen such behavior, which is poor indeed. But, you need to count your opponent might be a little child. They just hate losees and are not able to accept them yet...

Eric002  Hanging in there is honorable (Chess is a fight), mistakes happen (hopefully not you), the other person doesn't know if you or they should resign (and no one wants to bring up the topic), and as Hanza said, the opponent might be a little child and can't take if (regardless of age).

No one is obligated to resign if they do not feel like it. If the position is obviously so lost that there is no point playing, then the guy who is winning should have no problem checkmating the one who is losing.

If someone who is losing wants to draw the game out, they can and not a pointless way to play. Often people who are losing keep playing. Their opponent who thinks he is winning gets nervous and impatient and can make a mistake.

It literally happened to me at an over the board tournament. I was playing a kid who was about 10 years old, but who was good. Well, in the end I was losing but I kept trying to play. He became really restless and a antsy and started to play extremely carelessly. He made a mistake and lost.

I just played a game that I was holding the advantage and fending off aggressive attacks following what I've been learning. It was a 30-minute game my opponent had 26 minutes left on their clock. Then they just stopped playing. I refused to abandon the game and was just letting their clock run down.

Then when they had 8 minutes left, they started playing again and wiped the floor with me. Felt shady, like their entire play style changed. Anyway, I blocked and reported.
This type of behavior is painfully common. I can't understand why these folks play, like what are they getting out of it. That said for every one of there are five legit and fun players.
