Conditional Moves - You Asked, We Delivered

You can now add conditional moves! You will see a CONDITIONAL MOVES button on your chess board any time it is your opponent's move. You can use that to submit moves that will be automatically played if your opponent triggers them!

If you don't understand conditional moves, ask here :)

Truly Excellent.

A great site keeps getting better.   Especially helpful when  playng games against people in other time zones.

cool, now if only forced moves could just be made automatically.

we kicked this idea around, but i actually think most people would be bothered by it. even if it is forced, the psychological/emotional impact of not being the one to make the move could be a problem, especially for new players.

thanks for the news erik, just trying and working so fine,  if I submit

4.a5 b6

5.e4 f2

if my oponent change 4 but in move 5 moves e4, that line becomes invalid?   I guess only exact move list must be played

demuxer

also, i supose if moves are passed in a forward way, in example

if my 4.a5  is played as 5th move, thats a totally different board

This option does not enhance cheating opportunities in any way. It is simply a way to preselect your next move based on possible replies by your opponent.

Reminds of the game which opened 1 e4 and black replied 1 ..b6 and said "whatever you play next I'll play 2..Bb7"  White played 2 Ba6.  Not quite a conditional move I know.

Outstanding. Great job staff!

Shouldnt we be able to see the "if" moves that our opponent has left and their reply? In real postal chess you can.....and very often you may accept one of them because the reply is a mistake and binding on the one leaving it.

I gotta tell you, Reb, if my opponent could see the conditionals I wouldn't be using it.    You're right about showing them in postal chess, and they certainly saved weeks of playing time, but I'd just as soon keep my options up my virtual sleeve.

Sometimes when you may a move it's fairly obvious what your opponent's reply will be.  A conditional move allows you to play the move you expect him to play, then post your next move.  It saves time -- especially, as somebody above pointed out, if you live in different time zones.

Nor are you limited to one move.  In one of my end games I've listed 7 conditionals.  That's gunna save a day or two.

If you click on the button  "Conditional Move" button it's self-explanatory and if you don't like what you've just done there's the option to delete the conditional.

Try it, you'll like it.
