Superb! Great job!

the feature is really great,

I was playing with someone using it too,  imagine I submit 3 conditional moves, and he does it the same way, same moves...

in 35 seconds after the submit, we had made 3 moves both sides Smile

of course when both players are in the same symphony and knows whats better for both sides,  really cool, thanks for the effort

I really like this feature.  Previously I would put this kind of stuff in my notes using my own notation I had created for conditional lines so that I wouldn't forget if I had to leave the computer before my opponent made his next move.  The first time I used the feature I wrongly assumed that I could change the conditional move I had set if my opponent had not yet moved and I found something better, however.  Here was the game:

 http://www.chess.com/echess/game.html?id=6675697

I was almost certain that he was going to play 33. Rg7, so while I was waiting for him to make the move I went into Conditional Moves and selected 34.Bd5, which was initially what I liked best as a response upon some inspection of lines with the analysis board.  Upon further analysis of the position though, because I was still waiting for him to move and eyeing the screen intently in the meanwhile, I decided that I liked 34.Qd8+ better.  Fortunately the move I made was good enough anyway and he ended up resigning.  Still, if you're someone who hasn't used Conditional Moves yet then that's just a little heads up so be careful.  Make sure you're really committed to the move before selecting it for sure!

Great feature! I just created 7 lines for forced mate in one my game. The only thing I am afraid is that my opponent will resign!

I guess I'll look at it from a different perspective.  I don't like the feature because it makes it possible to actually view the possibilities of your next moves.  I think that part of chess is being able to view moves in your mind, being able to see multiple moves at a time play out.  With this feature, you can actually view how the moves will play out, and you are able to analyze your position much better.

 Just my opinion.

we kicked this idea around, but i actually think most people would be bothered by it. even if it is forced, the psychological/emotional impact of not being the one to make the move could be a problem, especially for new players.

agreed. and great job on adding the conditional moves! this site just keeps getting better.

There already was created analysis board looong time ago, and the only purpose of it is exactly to view the posibilities of future moves...

I love this feature.  I think it makes my game better because now I'm actually *committing* to something that gets carried out whether I change my mind or not.

it also is good when i have a lot of games running & no one is there to make their move, I can still get my chess fix by going through all the games & setting my reply.

my goal is to see how far ahead I can predict their actions.  so far I'm up to 4 moves (2 of mine, 2 of theirs)

PerfectGent: are you looking at the board on your turn? you have to be done your turn and waiting for your opponent to move first, before the button shows up.

 yes just found that thanks

that seems a little back to front to me.

its surely more natural to put in conditional move when i am on the game and have done my research so i know what to expect. Rather than have to go and find the game a second time to put in conditionals.

then you can, in your settings, choose to stay on that board when you are done making your move. but conditionals are not possible if you have not moved. :)

At the start of every game when I play e4 I am going to set up conditional moves 9 deep for the Sicilian Najdorf, that will save a lot on here.

That is a great feature. But there is still some work needed on this.

Two things:

 1) There should be an option of saving the line entered. This should not be done automatically, I like to check my lines after I put in the conditional moves list, and If I do not like it tne I just change it. If my lines are automatically saved, I could end up with the wrong moves and with not option to change it.

2) I enter a line early today something like (I was white):

If 1...Kh2 Then 2.Qa4

If  2... Kh3 then 2.Qh5+

Then I wanted to enter a different line,. because the King could move back to h1 instead of h2 . So my new line was

If 1....kh2 then 2.Qa4

If 2...Kh1 then 3.Qa1+

But the program didn't let me enter that move. And said that I already had a line with 2.Qa4. This is a mistake. Because I couldn't even create a variation starting at 2.Qa4. So I can only enter one line (not the possible variations).

Those two thing need to be fixed.

Great addtion

Orejano, I have tested this scenario and can't reproduce this bug. Does anyone else experience this problem? Orejano, please test again, perhaps you are mistaken and misused the tool?

Regarding saving lines automatically vs not, if you make it so they DONT save automatically, then you will have at least as many users complaining that they put in a line, and it didn't save (because they forgot to click the save button). I think most users prefer the auto-save behavior since it makes the tool easier to use.

orejano

Jay, I have tried today and that error didn't show up. Probably was a bug during the implementation?

And as for the automatic savif feature, well, maybe you can add a checkbox in the chess settings so everyone can choose if theirs line will be automatically saved or not.

A small point,

those that keep asking if conditional moves are cheating really don't understand the concept.  I encourage them to just look into the subject versus getting upset.

The only thing conditional moves do is speed up games.

Patzer24
Yes, the conditional moves is not cheating. It is just a form of pre-move.  Smile
eternal21
If you're really good, you can conditional move on your first move, all the way through mating your opponent :)
eternal21
Also - could someone enlighten me how does this qualify as cheating?  Seriously - if you don't understand the concept of a conditional move, maybe you should stick to checkers...
TheRealThreat

I like the idea of having conditional move because some moves are force. You then don't have to be online to play out force move made by your opponent... especially capture moves. This certainly speed up the course of the games... Now tournment are playing out faster.
