I think reducing the dimensions of a billboard-sized pic helps the site look nicer too.  ;)

well...  the massive size of the pic is part of the point

LOL "Chess.com is going down in 17 minutes." I wonder if they are adding these redesign features?

ilikeflags

i bet...

erik

the site is going down just because we are moving servers. the new redesign is coming in a few weeks.

custom themes will not be messed up - they actually look better :)

Kacparov

was the downtime already there or it's yet to come?

My question is will this redesign take more time to load. I often use my computer at home which has dial-up to access chess.com. It works pretty well now, but if the new redesign takes more time to load I wouldn't want it-I'm a plain and simple kind of guy.

kco

don't worry it should work mine is a dial-up too

Since you're gradually moving away from a white background and menus, consider making the full jump and create a home page that has a non-white background.

Such backgrounds are (a) easier on the eyes, and (b) can be quite appealing from a branding perspective too.

For example, white is too common and cannot be branded or readily associated with any individual company/business, but certain other colors and especially combinations of colors can (e.g., the Google theme of combining blue, red, yellow, and green in their Logo letters).

i like it because it shows more of the border area so on members pages you could see more of their personal backgrounds which tells a little more about them as people and makes them look better!Smile

while i must say that it's clear that you want the best out of your site. i must say i noticed that it seems it's never going to be quite finished. be careful not to overdo it.....its running pretty smoothe right now and your maticulousness has paid off. i have a friend that likes me around for his tendency to overdo it with his programs , songs, ect.    this is by no means intended as an insult....just being honest by saying that you can go ...too far. you're at the point where it's doing great and now you're thinking "Now what can I do"....i think its done and i'm willing to bet that others agree whether they are willing to post it in such terms or not. but hey....the bottom line is always going to be for you.... so do what you think is best.

gagank7

I think it looks great.
