Country not listed

I've just noticed that three of the member countries of the United Kingdom are listed and their flags available on Chess.com from the 'locations menu' - but one is missing -Northern Ireland.Any chance of fixing this?

The OOold country NOT listed trick. I haven't seen that since 1945. Maybe its the ooold FANTOM country trick. It just popped into existence, as we were speaking.  We can't do that until we get approval from the United Nations.

Honestly I haven't a clue what you're talking about Ronald. But I'd like someone to give a sensible answer .

If you were not aware of the nations that make up the UK then I suggest you educate yourself.

hmm..., that's an interesting question. Can you just be under UK

While I know it can be unreliable, wikipedia says Northern Ireland is a part of the UK and it doesn't have a separate flag.

Yes it's correct that the UK has it's flag but each of the coutries has it's own as well - as I said in the original post - the other 3 countries have their flags here at Chess.com so canit be added?

I remember correctly,Northern Ireland is considered a province of the uk where Scotland and Wales are actually countries whitin the uk. It's a bit in the name: the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

northern ireland is a country and should have its own flag if its missing. should only take a few seconds to add it. then again there is a flag for ireland but not for the republic of ireland and northern ireland.

phudson

I thought Northern Ireland didn't have an official flag.

Catrina-Volokitten

why would a country not have a flag ? google should give images to anyone with any interest.

sharcashmo

Maybe you could do a suggestion to the staff to add it.

Given that the other UK countries are listed, I think it wouldn't be a problem. Maybe the reason is that Northern Ireland has not its own chess federation according to FIDE list:

https://www.fide.com/fide/directory/member-federations.html?task=continent&cont=europe

But Catalonian chess federation is not member of FIDE, neither (its membership is through spanish federation), and it's listed by chess.com anyway.

as it happens, Northern Ireland doesnt have a official flag... it uses the British flag

Northern Ireland has not had its own unique, government-sanctioned flag since the Northern Ireland parliament and government wereprorogued in 1972, and abolished in 1973.[1] During official events, the British government uses the Union Flag, which is the official flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and is the only flag used by the government in Northern Ireland.[2]

The Saint Patrick's Saltire is sometimes used by the government to represent Northern Ireland alongside the other countries of the United Kingdom, and is the centrepiece of the badge of the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

The Ulster Banner remains in use by unionists, a number of sporting organisations in Northern Ireland and some local government authorities under Unionist control.[3]

Neither the Saint Patrick's Saltire nor the Ulster Banner may be flown on government buildings in Northern Ireland.[4]

what happened to the skull and crossbones they were using ?

I'm sure I've seen Northern Ireland's flag, and it's similar to the English one. Unless I'm thinking of Georgia, which is definitely very similar.

But I'm sure it's debatable whether Northern Ireland - and England, Scotland and Wales - are actually seperate countries. I know none of them are on the UN's list of members individually.

I think the UN might consider them all provinces of the UK. But the reason Northern Ireland isn't included within Great Britain is because it isn't in Great Britain, which is the landmass comprising England, Scotland and Wales.

the one youve seen will be either the 'Saint Patricks Satire' or the 'Ulster Banner' as wiki says in my post. if you click the name it will take you to the wiki page

Northern Ireland IS included in Great Britain. Its the Republic of Ireland which ISNT
