Debate: What to call "Online Chess"...

personally, the only two i could personally agree to would be:
daily chess
anytime chess
I'm leaning more and more toward the clear survey winner, Correspondence Chess and done with it. If you're really taking that off the table and limiting it to the above choices, then Anytime Chess is the clear, clear winner for me. It's not great, but it's not half bad. I could get used to that.

anytime or daily chess would probably be widely derided by the chess community. don't go in that direction. not wise. those names would be good names for correspondence chess on chesskid.com. my opinion.
also all the people mocking online chess for being "slow", there's actually a hell of a lot more to it than meets the eye if you are playing someone who is devoting all their attention and focus to it and taking the time to analyze all possible variations. little tricks and traps that we're all obsessed with won't usually work here. usually in order to win you have to take the time to devise an actual plan. unless the person blunders, stops playing etc.
I sometimes think it would interesting to have online chess without the analysis board or opening explorer. of course there's no way you could know or prevent someone from just using something similiar anyway. unless I don't know you violated their right to privacy and had cameras trained on them 24/7

yes and this should be made more explicit. people might not be intending to cheat, just thinking it's fine.

Cheating innocently ? Totally by accident. Oh didn't realise you weren't allowed to ! ?? hehe..

I'm sure it happens more frequently than people suppose. because engine use is actually frequently permitted in correspondence chess. another thing about engine use, in my opinion the only time it would actually help someone, give them an unfair advantage would be in live chess, especially blitz and bullet. in other formats, it will give much less of an edge. most people don't have super computers, so the engine won't necessarily the give the best deepest moves anyway.
on that note, I suggest "Deep Chess" or something along these lines, to emphasize all that can actually go on in an online chess game when both people are really into it, not distracted by anything and completely focused, ie not playing it like simul. contrary to popular belief it's only boring if you have add or something and/or if the person you are playing has a million other games and subsequently can't give much time to the game, or just simply isn't really playing all that hard for whatever reason. happens a lot because people frequently join like 100-300 games at the same time, thinking it's no big deal, only realizing a couple days later what they've got themselves into.

@Erik (staff) : How about holding a survey with different choices. Better if you make a seperate article for suggestions then choose which will be used in the survey.....

there are so much comments. I don't want to read them all so perhaps this quesiton has been raised before ...
I don't really get why you HAVE to rename it. Everyone knows what is meant by it. If you HAVE to rename it, why not renaming it only once and call it what everyone else would call it? Correspondence Chess.
And if you have problems with the name online chess ... why not renaming live chess?? online chess is live chess too ... at least I'm often online at the same time my opponent is and this means that we're chating and making several moves within let's say five minutes ...
let's rename both and make it a pair like slow-fast ...
oh and btw I will not vote for anything because you don't offer to keep it like it is.
How about 'Engine chess' to reflect the number of people using one
I think a lot people think it's not against the rules to use an engine. because engine use is actually permitted many times in correspondence chess.
