Debate: What to call "Online Chess"...

Asynchronous Chess. That's the key distinction between Live Chess and Correspondence Chess: in one, both players must play simultaneously, while in the other, they don't.

And anybody who knows what asynchronous means should know how that is different from Live Chess.

Chess-Diablo.

Why is Turnbased Chess getting so many votes?

Isn't all chess turn based?

I think On-line Chess and Live Chess are pretty good, but I'll vote for Correspondence Chess

"Slow Chess" sounds bad, don't go with that one. cChess seems good, after all "Correspondence Chess" sounds good and has history with it.

"Daily" is the sort of mundane compromise one would get used to swiftly.

Yes, all chess is turn based, just as all chess played over the Internet is online chess.

As this thread has demonstrated, there really is no good way to call it. I would recommend just using the familiar Correspondence Chess.

Argh, I'm so sick of debates.  Call it Slow-Thinkers Chess.

Since the alternative to online chess is live chess, you could just call it dead chess, or chess on life support, or something like that.

I like cChess best - unique, catchy but still representing  what it is, correspondene chess - anytime chess is 'ok'

I like it, it's perfectly descriptive.

But I think Erik is looking more for a marketing solution than a dictionary solution.  Consequently I have no good ideas :)

I do think if you could find a way to relate "asynchronous" in a common word or phrase then it'd be a great name.

As for not wanting to use the traditional "correspondence" chess because new players don't know chess lingo yet, I think that's being a little too greedy :).  But hey if you can get away with it and find a good name, more power to you.

How about "Eternal Chess", or "You may die before this game is over Chess"?

"YOYO CHESS"

  • move up and down; fluctuate:

How does that allude to the extended time used for the game?

Generational Chess.

Your descendants play your opponents' descendants until the game finally ends.

Hilarious!Laughing
