Elo adjustment after a game

In a recent Rapid game, I beat someone rated 100 pts lower than me. This raised my rating by 24 points but lowered his by 50! That's not what you'd expect, except that I wonder if the algorithm takes account of the fact that his Daily rating is a good deal higher than mine.
Anyone here know how the algorithm works?

I don't think daily ratings matter in this case, it's just that they hadn't played rapid for more than a year; rating might take some big variations after you stop playing for some time (at least that's what I've read on some other posts, never experienced it tho) until it readjusts... hope that helps!
