Endless Quiz Improvements

I really enjoy this feature. It is fun and educational. However, there are some problems:

I've seen identical questions written by several users, each of whom "earned" 100 points for the submission. There are also a high percentage of lazy questions--I can point to websites that are the source for dozens of questions by users I can name (and precious few of these questions meet minimal quality standards).

I've seen trash and spam of such a nature that I cannot in clear conscience recommend this feature to children. Of course, these are easily and quickly removed after reporting.

Pre-screening before the bonus points are awarded would be labor intensive, of course, but might help.

It would also be nice to be able to sort the standings by percentage correct as well as total points.

I also find that many people do that or post a totally random question like who is the coolest chess.com question.

great suggestions! we do appreciate those who help flag problems...

the other features will go on the action list.

Yes, as soon as we get bad quiz reports from our members we take immediate action to eithe rimprove/correct the quiz question or remove the quiz question if it cannot be fixed. Any help from our members in helping to keep the endless quiz filled with quality questions is much appreciated!

THINK YOU KNOW CHESS??

But how much do you know about the game - the history, the players, the rules, and more!? Take our quiz and compare your scores!

BTW, as someone that has answered over 1000 questions, I can stste with some authority that many of the good ones (including a few that I've gotten wrong) were written by Patzer24.

Thanks, I should have noticed that. Perhaps I did and then forgot I had because there are multiple pages of 100% scores for folks that have answered one question. I'm only interested in a percentage after several dozen attempts have been made.

Perhaps a rating system for quality of questions that might bring up the best questions more often when someone tries the quiz.

An example of the educational benefits of the quiz: I answered a question a few days ago regarding the source of a particular statement. As it happens, I have read the book in which the statement appears, but still had to guess at the correct answer. Then, this morning while rereading another book, I see the statement quoted in italics. This time--because of the Endless Quiz--the statement penetrated deeper into my consciousness. Cognitive theorists call this salience--the Endless Quiz made a particular piece of useful information more salient, and so I am more likely to remember it in the future.

"It is the aim of the modern school not to treat every position according to one general law, but according to the principle inherent in the position." Richard Réti, Modern Idea in Chess, as quoted in John Watson, Secrets of Modern Chess Strategy.

well, i'll be honest, i'm not sure how much we are going to work on improving this a ton. it's more of a novelty/fun thing. i think eventually we will, but we don't have the engineering resources for now :(

When a challenge to a question is successful, the original author should lose the points for the bad question, and the challenger should get some points, perhaps 15 (a little more than a correct answer). This system would encourage better quality questions, as well as more challenges to the bad ones.

I understand this means more work for Josh.

how do i flag a quistion after i selected the anwser? i'm talking bout the question "can the black king move 2 squares at its first move" i answered no, but the anser was yes. so i wanted to flag the question but the only one i could flag was the new one. and i couldn't find a link to go back to the previous question..

Ziryab

I use the back arrow of my browser to go back to the question I've just answered.

When a king castles, it must be his first move, and he moves two squares.
