Curious, since we are talking about variants.  Many times, the Lichess aspect has been brought up, so we are looking at things they offer.  I do want to propose some ideas here, and I know this might change the financial aspects of the server, and I also respect a decline on my proposal as well.

The first is a suggestion that Lichess does not offer - bughouse.  Not sure if it is possible, but if we could implement bughouse as a variant here, that would be pretty cool!

The second - Lichess offers the ability to DL all games played for free.  On here, the only way to access your games is to pay a fee, and a higher one to access other's games.  It isn't a huge fee to access the ability to see your games, and there are plenty of other services that chess.com offers that are worth paying for, such as the engine analysis, ChessMentor, videos, etc.  But it would be nice to at least access your own games and stats, even without the engine analysis.  That is one perk at the moment to using Lichess for live games - I can instantly upload all my games.  I do respect if the current system is kept in place, but I think it might be cool to allow players to at least access their own games.

Bughouse - noted!

All game downloads are FREE in V3.

OTOH, the games from Lichess contain unnecessary extraneous information that must be stripped away one game at a time in order to have a clean and usable database.

I am an expert user of ChessBase software and I've corrupted my database twice adding Lichess games.

That's a mindset. Things are neither "good" (except being kind) nor "bad" (except being mean). All of your definitions come from comparisons to expectations you generate in your mind. Apparently you are not as good at blitz as you expect to me. Guess who else feels that way? Probably everyone except Carlsen and Nakamura. Try reframing your mind to be more open and accepting of how things are and you will find yourself more at peace.

Oooohmmmmmm.....

Yeah, but its 600 points lower than my online rating :(

For me, the v3 website seems to run slower than v2. Is there any reason for this? (and I have tried this on a few computers and it is still slower)

Also, why did you decide to completely overhaul the design of the website? The website may have needed a ground-up re-build, but why not keep the UI similar?

And also, will Live tournaments for groups/teams/clubs/whatever-you-call-them-now be a possibility? And maybe create them so they can be round robin or swiss? (or even double round robin!) And select your own tiebreaks... Yeah, that is a lot of things :p

And also, why are you changing the names of everything? Daily chess, clubs to name two.

And also, multiple periods (e.g. 30/75', SD/15') in Live?

And also, is this enough questions? :)

 1. Still optimizing.

2. Designs progresses. Would you prefer our first design? http://www.chess.com/blog/ChessKingT/chesscom-a-trip-down-memory-lane

3. In process.

4. To make it more clear for the future. In a few months you will forget the old names.

5. No. Very small use case, very large hassle (for now).

6. Never enough. Be curious!

Eric, do you think my crush will say 'yes' tomorrow?  And, which variants are you preparing for V3?

 1. Depends on the question.

2. Can't say yet

Yes. Go to your profile and add something.

Say you are trying to challenge a member called "chessgenius" (just an example, I have no idea if that username exists).

Go to the Alerts tab, and type:

/challenge chessgenius 15 10

And there you have it!

Bilbo21

Thanks Erik.  I'll remember to send you a challenge on HaloweenLaughing

Haha, some very funny answers here Erik :)

Are they online? If they are offline, then you won't be able to play them (for obvious reasons).

Erik, have you ever made a pass at a pawn... in French?

Hey Erik!!

Firstly, great site, helped my chess playing so much, doesn't mean my rating has gone up tho :P

My question is regarding the daily puzzles. I've already posted on one of the daily posts and asked for this but haven't got a reply.

I've noticed that we've had pretty much only puzzles for white to play and win so could we PLEASE have some puzzles where black is to move and win? This may sound strange, but it really does help on so many levels.

Keep up the good work!

Erik

This is much better than that silly live interview you did. Congrats Laughing

My question hinges around marriage. Here goes. *cough*.

The game of chess has 2 possible outcomes, one person wins over the other, or there is a stalemate. There is never a win-win situation.

Questions:

1. Do you think the game of chess is similar to marriage? Please give examples.

2. How do you play it when your wife really really wants to buy something which you don't like?

Erik, can you please offer more control features in open team match challenges, in the specs please.

Have been asking for this for 2 years now

For example, when we create an open team match seek we want to be able to restrict which teams can accept and which can't by putting in a group size perimeter. E.g. Only groups that have between 1000 and 1500 members can accept. Or 50-100, or 3000-5000 etc etc.

Snall groups don't want giant groups accepting their open seeks to avoid suicide matches, and vice versa is pointless.

I agree on these points. Hopefully shortly after V3 launches. It's so hard to prioritize all of the great requests from so many people... too many ideas, not enough time...

This request is one that benefits all group admins. Team matches is a large integral part of chess.com's mechanisms. It's a royal pain in the butt to search out groups and send them challenges, and then wait to see if they accept, and wait some more, only to have them decline the challenge, then it's back to the drawing board to find another group. So much time wasting, so much headache. Creating open seeks cuts the time wasting, loses the headaches. Except the migraines return when an unsuitable group accepts the open seek, because they are too big or too small. And then the match has to be cancelled, after some players have signed up in some cases. One little added option will be very healing.

The forums have a rather peculiar element.  The OP is able to block members from posting.

There are times when a thread should be pristine and an OP may want to discuss a specific thing without clutter such as off-topic comments, image-spamming, ect.   Yet there are other forum threads in which the OP just doesn't want to hear dissenting comments.

I think default threads should be open to everyone (taking away the ability of the OP to block anyone), but there should be an option, only available when creating the thread, to give the OP total control to delete comments/block users, and such threads would be tagged as such so anyone would know whether the thread were open or closed before posting in it.
