The key is to not ever treat anyone online as potential relationship partners. Just shelve that and be friends and assume nothing past that. If you ever meet IRL, that is the time to think about attraction. If you can manage this, you'll thank me later, because catfishers and scammers will become quite obvious when you don't jump at everything they put out there...they will press harder and it will become blatantly obvious that they have an agenda.

Never have i ever thought that anyone would attempt to have a "date" online via chess.com forums. Even as an 8-12 year old i would have found that weird.
