Is't possible to flip the analysis board?

[ERIK says: you can - it is in the details tab]

2 feature suggestions:

1) Always allow sending "rematch" challenges even if player has accept challenges turned off.

2) Allow option of touching piece, then touching destination square instead of dragging so chess.com will work better on touch screen devices.  (and will work on iphone....)

[ERIK says: for #1, i'm not sure that is what those people would want. for #2, you can do click and then click to move! not sure it works with the iphone though...]

I think I've seen a couple requests of this nature -- perhaps what's needed is just additional granularity given to the users with respect to what challenges they'd like to receive.  I think a checkbox for each of the following would do it:

  • Disable Tournament Invites
  • Disable Rematch Requests
  • Disable Challenges from Members not Sharing a Common Group Membership
  • Disable Challenges from Members not on Friends List
  • Disable All Challenges

(The last two, of course, each being a superset of the prior one)

Thoughts?

On #1, I would like a choice that says "Block challenges except rematches" and one that says "Block all challenges"

On #2, I just tried it on the daily puzzle and the click and then click doesn't work for me.  (On a regular PC, not an iphone.)

What about this idea for a suggestion:  if you do want to track someone, can you be notified every time they post anything, whether it is a response, start a thread, etc.  Right now (and I could be wrong here), regarding forum posts, you are only notified if they start a new thread, NOT if they reply to something.  I want to know where my friends are posting, even if it is a reply -- chances are that wherever they post, I will want to read that too.  Or is this idea too stalker-ish?  I would think not...I could comment to my friend about his/her reply to a post, we'd have a good laugh, and then they'd destroy me in a game of chess.  Good times!  Your thoughts on this are welcomed...

[ERIK says: too much :)]

"My move" notifications by email are nice but not enough. Why not to show small JPG with current position in this notification message and to add opportunity to make a next move just by replying to notification mail with notation of the move at the start of message body (I suppose the unique ID in subject of email). This will help a lot when I have internet connection only on my mobile phone and PC is not accessible (for example at weekend or vacation trip). There will be less timouts and vacations. Ok, if there are no ad banners in email, you can allow this feature only for premium members.

Such email extension will be much easier to implement and easier to use than mobile version of the web-site.

[ERIK says: sending an image in the email... interesting. it can be done, but there are huge implications about spam, email deliverability, etc. i'm CERTAIN we won't allow moves to be sent back via email. the programming around that would be impossibly painful.]

It is a pity. I thought that PBeM interface is reliable, cheap and well-tried for years (even decades). And well suitable for turn-based games... Anyway - thanks!

Click and click works in game play and on Tactics Trainer, but not on puzzles.

When you are using the directional arrow buttons to go back and forth through a game on the actual game board for CC chess (not live), each move on the list is highlighted in yellow as it goes from move to move.  However, this little feature disappears on the analysis board.  Even if I click on a move right in the middle of the game on the analysis board, and click the forward or backward buttons, the pieces move, but nowhere it is highlighted on the move list.  Perhaps this would be an easy fix?
TheGrobe

I'd also like to see the highlights on the rollover board.

A live chess feature that would be nice is status bar text to let you know when your opponent is typing (similar to instant messenger applications) -- "[Opponent Name] is Typing a Message"

I'd love more control over the way games queue up when I make a move and am presented with the next game.  Often, a game I want to hold off on making my move in continually pops up as my "Next Ready Game" and I end up getting it every second screen when I skip through it.  A dropdown letting me choose which game to go to next would be ideal, but in addition something as simple as pushing a game that's been skipped to the bottom of the queue until I navigate away from the game screen would be great too.

FWIW, I'll second that one. Great idea!

After joining my first tournament I have thought of one little feature that might be helpful. Just like sitting on a game page will refresh when your opponent makes a move, it would be great if when sitting on your list of games the page refreshed when there was a move to make.

I understand that it could be a problem if someone had 20 games qued and every 5 seconds the page was refreshing. But maybe, if it's not a problem, have it set to refresh only if it's the first ready to move game. That way I could make my move and then return to my page and wait for the next ready game.

Or maybe give everyone the option to chose which games they want to track to so that when moves are made the page refreshes, only on the games list so it doesn't become a problem though.

[ERIK says: it already does this :) if you have a game that has a move to play, it will refresh automatically!]

When creating tournaments it would be useful to have an option, under advanced options, to set a maxium timeout % requirement, please.

[ERIK says: we probably won't add this at this time. it is set at 10% timeouts now]

We can set a max time per move, but this doesn't always cover for protecting against those with a high timeout %, which can spoil the tournament if such a person times out a number of games.

edit: a good example is the 1800 quick tournament im in atm, after a couple of days there are already 82 timeouts..

Cheers

One other thought, we have the option of posting annoucnements as tournament directors, it would however be useful if when someone joined a tournament they by default had the tickbox checked to track comments in the tournament thread.

This could help the comaraderie between players to be fostered and enable a director to let others know info without having to post a big announcement. People could still opt out of course, but i think more people would be happy to actively track threads if it was automatic, only for tournaments, as they had clearly chosen to be involved.

[ERIK says: i think we'll leave it as is. some people want to play, some want to chat. we have polled on this before and most people want tracking OFF by default.]

One last idea fer now, honest! - In one's alert settings, in account settings, perhaps an option to allow default tracking of all topics one posts in? Generally if i post in a thread i like to either track it or respond to any comments directed to me. Of course we can manually select it each time, just a thought though.

[ERIK says: yeah. it's a big topic. not sure how to handle it. perhaps we can do this in the future, but the programming nightmare that this is doesn't currently equal the potential benefit.]

Pistoleer

ok i lied but i dint mean to, the wine is making me come up with ideas!

Particularily in vote chess, many people often ask or want to know someones online chess score. I understand this, as it can be a guide to how they wrote what they did.

I dont think everyones online score should be obviously displayed, however how about a hover tag...  so when you mouse hover over someones icon and/or name, their current rating will appear discretely.

This way its not in yer face, but could be very easily and quickly available if people wish to know, without having to leave the page they are on.

It would also be helpful for people on the forum as well, so they can best know advice in response to someones questions for example. Knowing their rating can help in tailoring a most useful reply.

Bottle of port is almost empty so tis likely my thoughts will begin to slow down again now ;) Cheers

[ERIK says: yes, we are going to do this]

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but is there a bonus for people who refer others to chess.com?  Say, a 10 point addition for each friend, or a trophy of some kind?

[ERIK says: if you refer someone and they become premium, you get extra premium time. also, you could become the TOP PROMOTER as seen on the member page. perhaps we can give a trophy for each new person too...]

chrish

No doubt has already been suggested - but I lack the commitment to read all the comments :-)

Is it technically possible to indicate on the tab for Live Chess when the connection has been made?  Sometimes it takes a long time to connect (sometimes it never does) & it would be nice to see if the connection has been successful without having to open the specific tab.

I use Firefox but I assume the same would apply with IE 7.

Cheers, Chris

[ERIK says: this shouldn't be a problem within a few more days :)]

lostapiece

would it be possible to have a scrolling banner with pole dancers on while im waiting for people to move ! : )

[ERIK says: I'm quite sure there are some browser plugins that do this, but nothing I would develop or condone ;)]

eertem

Erik,

Why can't we get notify/PGN for result  by e-mail when the game over..I think it's not so difficult for you. Many chess site have this feature.

[ERIK says: do you want it as an attachment? why not just download them in batches? :)]

I'd like to see the "Rematch" button in live chess on the main game screen, not just on the "Game Over" dialog.  Sometimes I clear that dialog but still want to offer a rematch and end up having to dig through the users tab to issue the challenge.
