Feature Requests and Wishlist Thoughts!!?
Okay, Erik, I've posted several comments regarding PGN here and in another thread, and you've remained silent.
I think this is a nice site, and I've played at most of the similar ones. However, PGN implementation here is poor. If you want me to keep playing here more than a month or two, you will fix this. Also, you will render it possible to download all of a player's games in one batch instead of as multiple single files, as present.
If you have any ideas on how to make Chess.com better, please let us know! Could be small things, big things, dreamy things, easy things, impossible things (nothing is impossible for Jay & Piotr!)... Just tell us if there is ANYTHING you would like to see improved!
the los angeles times sunday has a chess section and weekly puzzle that is very challenging maybe you can post it here as an added challenge puzzle
"I'd like a facility to make little notes next to games in my archive so I can note down which openings/defense/endings they show me without having to open each game."
According to Ziryab, there seems to be some non-conformance issue with the pgn headers. IF a pgn is correctly formatted, it should (but isn't required to) contain the ECO code for the opening. With the ECO code in the header, you should be able, not only to locate games by openings, but search and sort any database using the opening code as a criterion.
I like the tournament idea. What about awards for member points?(I'm not sure if anyone touched on this.) For example, after 100 points maybe you get the chance to play against the creators of this site, or the person who makes the daily puzzle. And after every 150 points you get to challenge someone who has a higher rating than you, but they have to play handicapped. i.e. without a bishop and a knight, but it would have to depend on how high their rating is. Also in all fairness, this game wouldn't count on their record.
"I've been looking at some of Morphy's games lately, and one thing that struck me (among many) is his use of odds games. Perhaps there could be a feature on chess.com to facilitate odds games?"
If you're interested in Odds games, you might find some interest in an article I had written on the practice of Odds-giving, called The Romance of Chess.
