Feature Requests and Wishlist Thoughts!!?

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but it's a pet-peeve I've developed in my short time on this site:

The board, during games, and in puzzles and posts, loads incredibly slowly.  It makes the main page really slow, games when both parties are on line a little bit painful and opening topics that have one (or more) posted a frustrating drag.  Some attention to its performance would do wonders for the overall usability of the site.

What kind of internet do you have (dialup, DSL, etc)? What browser are you using? I don't have any problems. The thing is that there isn't a whole lot we can do - it is rich media, and unfortunately it takes a bit to load for some internet connections. In the future we may be able to optimize, but I am not sure how yet...

I have seen a few posts regarding the desire to be able to annotate your games (with which I agree).  The chess wizard that is available when you want to publish a game is just great- how you can make comments before and after a move, put in variations, etc. etc. (and have the PGN for it as well) -- is there a way you might be able to incorporate *that* in regards to current games?  It seems that since you have such a good tool to annotate games, maybe there is a way to make that available during current games?  Right now, it seems to me that if someone is a die-hard annotator that wants to do their own games during the game, they could export the PGN after the first move of their live game, then create a blog (public or private) and store that game in it, and update the moves manually while creating notes.  Of course, if you have a boatload of games going, then this might be kind of a lengthy process....

Also, one other request...is there a way you can add functionality so that if I am on the analysis board, and I make multiple "future" moves, that those moves could be recorded/remembered just for that analysis time.  There have been times when I have made 3-4-5 good moves ahead, and then said "Ok, what did I do?"  I have seen that capability on other chess sites, and wondered if you could get it on here.  Sounds like such a silly little thing, but kind of nice to have for the analysis section -- and maybe it is easy to implement(?) Smile

the in-game annotation is very difficult :) i'll think about it.

the conditional moves will be done.

I'm pretty new to this site, but I would REALLY like to see a search engine feature that allows you to search by ratings. Maybe that is already a feature, but I haven't found it. That would be an AMAZINGLY helpful feature.

Is there a way of viewing all members in order of the number of points they have?  My vanity demands that I know how near the top I am! Laughing

Sonofpearl you go to "my online chess" then in a panel on the upper right theres a link "players" click on that.

Speaking of which will rankings be happening anytime soon? what about showing percentile as well?

change what part of the html?? we gave you the ability to change the site colors and upgrade your logo. what do you want to do with the html!?

I like to move things around.  I'm a big sucker for symmetry.  It's for the best that we can't, though. We'd have all sorts of spam profiles.  It would ruin this nirvanic community that is chess.com.

go to: MY HOME click on ONLINE CHESS, in the upper right click on Players, when the page appears there are different sort options(highest rating[default]).

Currently when you're playing a game and have the analysis board open, there are three different tabs.  Would it be possible to merge these into one, so that all the information is available without having to tab between them?

On a different topic, I don't mind seeing adverts at all (it's nice to see you're getting some companies interested! Yay!), but personally I find the ads that scroll through different images (like the HOS one currently on the home page) to be irritating and distracting when I'm trying to read the rest of the page.

Can't they just be a single image like the Monroi ad? Or would you get less money for that? Wink

I know you can order the list of players by rating, but I would quite like to have a ranking as well as a rating.  i.e. the top rated player would be ranked no.1 and I might be 1,000th or whatever! Laughing  Another interesting statistic would be which percentile of players you rank in.

I think this is a pretty tall order, but I'd like to see a new area under learning (swimilar to chess rules & basics) that illustrates some slightly more advanced areas of study like middle game strategy ie skewers, pins, removing the defender etc...  I'd also like to see some end game instruction as that is definitely my weakest area.

I realize that there are forums dedicated to these areas, but they are hard to study in a systematic way because the order is random.

 Thanks for allowing suggestions.

 just wait 2 weeks! :)

Don't know if these have been mentioned in the preceeding 14 pages, but it would be great to have the ability to

a) go back through the your moves in the moves tab and annotate your game while you're still playing it (to be included in the exported PGN of course)

b) set up combinations in advance that would automatically play out as long as your opponent played the line you entered (or lines if alternate lines were implememented) whether you are on-line or not

c) in line with b) above, automatically play out forced moves whether you are logged in or not (e-mail notification would be handy with this feature in particular)

Just a few thoughts -- I'm sure I've got a ton more ideas, I just haven't had them yet.

7. PAYPAL? - we won't be using paypal. just normal CC transactions.

 Dear Erik,

Why are you not using paypal?  I thought it is cheaper per transaction and less admin work for you to do compared with cc
