Feature Requests and Wishlist Thoughts!!?
It would be nice to be able to start (both for turnbased and Live Chess) unrated games from any position specified using FEN.
Sometimes you want to practice something special or try another move in agame you lost.
I love the endless quiz but all these historical questions ( some impossibly obscure ones) make me look like a donk. (I am a bit of a donk but not that much
)
It would be cool if there was a separate, exclusively chess quiz.
instead of blowing up Erik's computers running post-game analysis on all games to fish for cheaters, maybe Rybka or Fritz parent companies would like the free advertising from having a [Request Analisis of Game with ______ Chess Engine Software] button as an option when the game is over. Of course this would be a learning tool, not a stakeout for cheaters, but the threat of vigilence would be there. it might even be a feature worthy of premium member status (or at least for beta testing). To keep the computers from exploding in peak demand, the analysis could be returned and alerted to the member when the computer(s) dedicated to analysis (computer(s) supplied by the Rybka/Fritz?
) had completed the requested analysis.
Full disclosure: May be an e-commerce pipe dream.
I would like to suggest a new feature to be used while playing your online games. This could also be used in "Live Chess" if the time controls allow.
Under the moves tab, I would like to see the ability to insert your comments/annotations as you are playing. As different ideas come up in a position, just jot them down. Why are you playing a certain move or combination, and did it work out. And then, of course, after the game is over, when you download the pgn, your comments and annotations are already there.
I know that if a game goes on for a few days, I lose track of my train of thought that occurred in the earlier part of the game.
I know there is the "Notes" tab, but having something that is tied in to a certain move or position would be superior (I think.)
I think we should have pink bunnies and little farries all over the site, maybe even a few panda bears.
Or if we could sort the games table by people online / tmie remaining / etc.
:)

Excellent idea! I have posted this idea as well, and the vibe I get on it is that they will work on it, but it might be a bit down the road....hey, at least its doable (hopefully). Any thoughts from any Admins on this would be appreciated. Is this doable, regardless of how long it takes or how down on the list it is?
A workaround to this (might not be the best, but here goes), is to create a blog to yourself that contains the running game. You can create the game in the blog with the little brown checkerboard icon, and with each move in the real game, go back to this blog entry, modify the game along with any comments or ideas, and save it. Eventually, you will have the entire game along with the variations and comments. Granted, when you first start this, you would have to either limit the blog viewing to just your friends, and/or lie about the game details (e.g. change opponent's name, act as if date of game was far in past) so if others see it, they won't know/won't care that these are actually notes for a current game. The "Insert a game" feature into a posting a a strong little program, that would be great if they could link that up with ongoing games to serve as a vehicle to be able to annotate/try out moves on the fly for ongoing correspondence games.
Hi Erik,
Is it possible to set Leipzig pieces style into the board preferences...It would be nice..

I didn't read all the posts in the thread, but I've always wondered why the analysis board is a seperate window. If the analysis board is intelligent (allows a player to spot pins and checks), why not just make the analysis moves on the original board?
I don't doubt that the programing required for this would take more time then it saves me in clicking the analysis board link, but it does make me wonder why the analysis board is intelligent, and a seperate board. One or the other, yes, but why both?
isnt there already "live chess" on the site?
This happens to me too, when I'm on my work computer. It doesn't do when I'm at home though!
Are there are major differences b/w your work/home computers (diff. browser, diff OS?) - that might be a real clue into figuring out what is going on here.
A trophy indicating your opponents skill with pawns might be nice, since I keep getting hammered in the end-game :P
Pawn-king might sound a bit dodgy mind...
Hi Erik,
A great site, thank you. I haven't been on the site long, but a couple of suggestions spring to mind (sorry if they have already been mentioned before):
1. The ability to subscribe to a forum, not just individual threads - or customise the way that forums are viewed so that you can have one or two of your favourites directly linked to from your homepage. There are a lot of forums and I am finding that I only regularly check two or three - so if I could go straight to them from my homepage that would be a much simpler process.
2. It would be great to be able to show your birthday in your public profile without showing the year you were born or your age; or conversly, be able to put in the data and have your profile only show your age.
Like I said, great site!
Thanks,
Mr.B
