I didn't bother to vet the story by looking up her USCF rating, but it makes a good read...

It's a sad story.

A little surprised her numbers on chess.com aren't a bit higher, but maybe she was playing students and giving them a break.

I mean, her chess.com rating doesn't necessarily relate to her actual strenght since she doesn't have a high amount of games, among other reasons. Also, even if her playing strenght dropped a lot, managing to be a scholastic champion is already a respectable achievement.

Child prodigy lmao.

some people are born for marketing.

I read the article, I think her focus was more on the addiction aspects plus the intense interest in chess, rather than trying to assert she had Beth Harmon skills. That the part that would make it difficult to watch.

The article has less to do with The Queen's Gambit and more to do with the renewed interest in memoir fiction and non-fiction. Beth Harmon was the hook.

I think she was very good chess player at a young age,  not sure if that makes a prodigy. Still her life revolves around chess as well as many other interests.  Living life.
