I agree with LuftWaffles that the term "chick" is inherently neutral. It's probably somewhat (though not exactly) analogous to calling a man "guy." But it can have a somewhat slightly negative connotation also depending on how it's used. I think guys use it to refer to a girl or a group of girls, but maybe a bit less so when referring to women. In my experience, women/girls far less often use the term to refer to themselves or to groups of girls or women.

It's as much of a compliment as "dude" is for males. Not at all.
Only way I could see it being a compliment, is if you called some 60 year old woman a chick. :D

They would look at you funny and think you are insane not take it as a compliment(unless you are like 60 aswell)
