By the way, I googled "chick" and you can be sure I don't like the term. You should be more respectful with grown-ups, "kid".

Teehee, I knew nothing about you. All I know is you and MSC.....

Chick is a compliment.

Irontiger

It's true we are missing a masculine equivalent for "chick". One that has the same connotations of objectivation and contempt...

After having found a good "innocent-image-that-becomes-dirty-in-context", I guess "ostrich" could be appropriate :

Wolfbird

Try googling "jackass."

Benzodiazepine

Why do the Ostrichs stick their heads into holes?!

I'm very sorry, Addicted, I didn't want to bother you.

Haha, for a minute I thought you meant me! :O

But I guess you don't like me now. :|

I agree with LuftWaffles that the term "chick" is inherently neutral. It's probably somewhat (though not exactly) analogous to calling a man "guy."   But it can have a somewhat slightly negative connotation also depending on how it's used.  I think guys use it to refer to a girl or a group of girls, but maybe a bit less so when referring to women.  In my experience, women/girls far less often use the term to refer to themselves or to groups of girls or women.

"Chick is a compliment."
No, it's not.

samtoyousir

Haha you didn't bother me at all! It's not a term I use in real life often, espeically about people who are going to know I called them that!  XD but a lot of girls like the term. So.....

Sandrita si tienes problema con la palabra "chick" creo que la estas entendiendo mal. Es uno de esos casos cuando no hay que hacerle mucho caso al raiz de la palabra sino mejor el uso actual. No implica mas que "chava" o "chica" :-)

After one year of college spanish, this is using no translator... HEre's my guess.

Sandrita, if you have a problem with the word "chick" I believe it's because you think it has bad intentions. It is is one of these things some thing.... something.. (it looks worse than it is) It means nothing more than "girl" or (baby)?

Anyway, something along those lines. XD how'd I do?!

MSC157

What now. Should I call a girl like chick, or should I stick to chica? :D

No, it's not.

Oh come on, chick is a compliment to some and not to others.

chess_jawa

This escalated quickly

samtoyousir

All I did was call a random girl chick I swear sir!

Benzodiazepine

It's as much of a compliment as "dude" is for males. Not at all.

Only way I could see it being a compliment, is if you called some 60 year old woman a chick. :D

MSC157

How can you call Sandra "a random girl"?

Haha Benz, good one!

They would look at you funny and think you are insane not take it as a compliment(unless you are like 60 aswell)

Not too bad! Your Spanish is more or less like my English, I guess

Tu ingles is muy major de mi espanol. Yo sabe leer espanol, pero cuando yo hablo es terrible! XD

MSC157

Sandra, what does "LLEGO" mean? I think Shakira says this word in her championship song. :)
