So you don't have a record of the game, but you do have the current position? Just make up a series of moves that get you there, send the script to your opponent, and play an unrated game.

Oh you'd have to make it up yourself. It's not a common problem, I was just suggesting a workaround. Could be a fun project though.
ah, understood. Thanks for the suggestion, the game is more likely to wait until next xmas holiday if I went that route:)
Guess it wasn't a very practical suggestion. There are databases where you can search for all the games that reach a certain position. Most amateur games don't follow the same path as titled players so that would probably not work either. Worth a try though. I know HIARCS will do it so I assume Chessbase or Chess Assistant would too. Got any chess friends who own databases?

I am looking for a way to play a game from particular positions and play it out online - basically I played some Chess over the holidays with family on a physical board and I didnt get to finish one (which must be concluded!!).
I believed I saw a website where you could play a game from certain positions rather than the usual starting ones and play it from there over email. I think I dreamt it though!
Is it possible on this site? I see the game editor, but I dont know the best way to use it or if it was designed with this use in mind.
