On the other hand... I’ve said gg or thank you or well played before I get beat (when I see it coming) because almost nobody stays long enough to read it once the game over.
"GG" before game is over is rude

I appreciate that
I do understand your point as well. When that happens, i either ignore it or shut the chat off. Life’s too short to let it get under your skin. Enjoy the Journey!

1. Disable chat, I did this a few years back because my opponents would swear in chat
2. Ignore all comments, they're trying to take your focus off so you blunder in some way

ig ignore all comments would be useful for when you rlly wanna say something or your opponent is a good sport

Very honestly i say gg before the match ends too.
I stopped doing that. And whenever I lose a match i say gg now

Hi!
If you are offended often you do have the option to disable chat completely in games. I think you will find this helpful.

I always say gg before the game is over, sure it is annoying, but from what I remember, it doesn't break any rules of chess.com.

true

For the most part, my opponents have been respectful. They might refuse to resign, or even outright abandon the game, but they keep their 2 cents to themselves.

I don't interpret it in a negative way if someone says good game before mating me. Actually I think it is a sign of respect.

I will say, this post and the responses have inspired me to use "gg" myself sincerely as often as possible.

phew! When I saw your topic title including "GG", I thought that was what you'd be posting about. But with relief I see you're using "gg" (and not breaking etiquette by shouting using all caps, during games which definitely would be Distracting and Annoying).

I'm getting annoyed with people messaging "gg" before the game is over. It's understood that it's rude to tell your opponent to resign, so some people seem to think they can write "gg" instead as a loophole. It's not good sportsmanship. It's passive aggressive and annoying.
