Gifting premium memberships

When browsing members' profiles, I've noticed a diamond icon that says "Gift membership" and I've been wondering how that works. Can any regular member gift a membership to any other regular member? Does one have to fulfill certain special requirements in order to be able to gift or be gifted a premium membership? Would that be a permanent membership? Is there a limit to the number of times one could gift a membership to other members?

Question 1 --- yes

Question 2 --- yes, you have to pay

Question 3 --- no, the most you can do is a year

Question 4 --- I don't think so, considering many people have gifted over a 1000

How does one accept the membership ? Or is it automatic?

It's automatic, you have no choice.

but what if you get gifted a gold or platinum membership fo example if you already have diamond

like for example i have platinum, when I get gifted a gold membership will it remove my platinum?

will it still count as me having a silver membership so will I still pay for the Platinum membership?
