This is the Chess.com policy regarding community members who happen to be Russian:

"Is Chess.com banning members from Russia and Belarus?

"Specific Russian and Belarusian players sanctioned by the global community have been banned from Chess.com. We have identified and closed accounts from multiple sanctioned Russian oligarchs.

"Chess.com is not instituting a ban on all Russian or Belarusian players on our site and events. We believe it is counterproductive to isolate innocent Russian and Belarusian citizens from the global community. Participation in the global community is important to spreading truth.

"While we are not banning or limiting accounts, payment processing is currently blocked for all major payment processors in Russia and Belarus. Members who currently have active premium memberships are not affected; however, once existing premium memberships expire, they will not be renewed."

So, since memberships are yearly usually, Russians will lose access to almost all of Chess.com except I guess the privilege of playing.

So, how many Americans will lose their memberships because of the immoral invasion/destruction/occupation of Iraq, and similarly malevolent violent attacks military attacks on Pakistan, Yemen, Libya and Somalia?

How many Israeli's will lose their membership for the unremitting, unjustified military attacks on Gaza over many years and continuing to this day?

The quotation above is from the Chess.com official statement of policy on the Ukraine.  I notice there is no statement of policy on USA invasions and aggression, nor any statement of support for a just solution to Israel's sinful, shameless brutality against Palestine's equal rights to land and security.   I also notice that Comments about the Ukraine Policy are not allowed.

I suppose this attempt at respectfully suggesting that like cases be treated alike will be prohibited and quickly removed.   Allowing discussion of this topic - which Chess.com has itself put front and center into the chess community, would be the healthier course.

Can we have respectful free speech on Chess.com forums?
